Ok, I started this a few days ago not knowing how it'd turn out.
I thought an Irish Chain would look nice and it really isn't bad.

Marcia 09-17-2008 04:49 AM

Terri-that is really pretty. My aunt is a cardinal lover and would snatch that quilt from you in a heartbeat!! I cannot believe how fast you turn out a quilt!!

I like the cardinals. Very nice.

This one actually took me 3 days to make. I was a bit lazy on the sewing lol
I have some pretty green Christmasy fabric with some holly on it that I think I just may have enough for the backing. If not, I will use white. Bought a bolt of it for backing quilts. Got the bolt for $5/yd and the bolt hadn't been cut and it's 108" wide on there. I'm thinking someone mismarked it. Their mistake...MY GREAT BUY! :)

reneebobby 09-17-2008 05:06 AM

Oh very pretty I like cardinals. lol

Elizabeth A. 09-17-2008 05:07 AM

I like how the cardinals seem to sit up in the middle, it certainly puts me in the mood for Christmas (and gets me stewing about my problem quilt).

tlrnhi 09-17-2008 05:12 AM

Pretty good how I trained them to do that, huh Elizabeth? lol

Elizabeth A. 09-17-2008 05:13 AM

LOL! I can see your little bird choir, now sit up straight little boy, no no don't look at the girls out the window, look at me. Come on now everyone together. Voila! :D

Part of me wants to keep it, part of me wants to sell it. If I sell it, that means I need to figure out a price. Just the cardinal fabric was $8/yard and it took about 2 yards. The backing I have picked out was $8/yard too. Not sure how much I'll need, maybe 4 yards? so there's $48 already. I'm thinking if I sell it, it can go for $75. I won't go any higher only because I don't know what will sell and what won't. Since it's always warm here, I don't know how well quilts will do, but they COULD sell to those who have families in cold climates. Know what I mean?
I do need to find some gold thread so I can quilt it. I figured I can "x" thru the 9 patch. Thought of "x"ing thru the cardinal block, but that would take away from it. So, after my meeting tomorrow, it's off to find thread.

Very nice Terri. Great work.

Terri: Love your Cardinal quilt. Thanks for sharing.

Feathers 09-17-2008 07:53 AM

Hi Terri: I've heard that when someone sells their handmade items they charge DOUBLE the cost of making it plus assign a dollar amount for time spent. I went to a quilt show last week end and some of the quilts for sale at the show were selling from $275 to $985. More than I could ever afford for a quilt and more than I would ever even consider paying but for some people who want and appreciate handmade and are decorating their homes they will gladly pay the price for what they want. As I said, I couldn't pay those prices and I've never sold anything I've made so I'm no expert.

Butterflyspain 09-17-2008 08:18 AM

Well I love that one, its just gorgeous. I remember that fabric, one from Hong Kong. You made a really pretty quilt out of that.

Super duper....

elle

tlrnhi 09-17-2008 08:25 AM

Well, I'm going to try for maybe $100. Might come down on the price, depending on who/what is buying/selling.

No, Elle, that's not fabric from Hong Kong. All my HK fabric is silk and brocade, haven't done anything with that as of yet.
This was stuff I found at the bottom of a pile in Ben Franklins.

There is another store here on island. They sell mostly stuff for homes and for dress making..not alot of cotton. Going to just go and check them out and see what they might have new.

Chele 09-17-2008 08:34 AM

Gorgeous! You piece beautifully!

Butterflyspain 09-17-2008 10:59 AM

Oooops  Thought it was one from Hong Kong, Keep looking at it, it really is nice

Wow! That looks great, Terri. I love the cardinals too. It does look Christmassy. Great idea.

tlrnhi 09-17-2008 10:24 PM

For those of you who want it...well, come get it! lol
I just got back from a meeting for an Asian Auction that is going to go on and got some more info on the craft fair. Since the fair will be open to EVERYONE, not just military, I can pretty much set the prices for what is mainly pricing for the states. That's a good thing. From what I understand, there really isn't any home made things except for a lady that does ornaments...the bake and paint kind. So...hoping that I will "steal" the show with what I can get done.
I brought one of my totes with me. I always do, it showcases them to others, plus I can hopefully get sales too. lol One lady said that the totes should sell like hotcakes. I sure hope so!

tarib 09-18-2008 03:32 AM

you know I never would have thought to do an irish chain with that much going on pattern wise, but hey it really works. My mother in law would love that, she has collected cardinals for years.

tlrnhi 09-18-2008 03:52 AM

I would have never thought of it either, but I got the idea when I saw the fabric, so figured, why not at least try. If it doesn't look good, I can always give it to MIL, she loves what I make, even the ugly stuff. lol
But, I was actually surprised at how it came out.
I'm going to "x" the 9 patches. Found some gold thread today.
I'm in the process of putting 2 totes together, then I am going to work on finishing...Yes, the "F" word....the quilt tops that need to be done.
I need to go and buy a plastic bin/tote for this stuff and start putting it away so I don't start losing it in my room.
