Now, please don't call the quilt police on my 6 year old DD but she's calling this her Tied Fleece Quilt since it has the appearance of having quilt blocks. She saw a picture of a fleece "quilt" in a catalog and decided last year that we could do that ourselves. She did all the cutting for the squares and the fringe and then put them into rows in the pattern she liked. She only needed a very little bit of help with the longer rows but everything else was entirely her own work.

 Actually, math is her strongest point in school. She's very academic and going by state regulations in homeschool, she skipped Kindergarten all together and started first grade last year. She's 6 and halfway through second grade now. She's not too fond of art class, ironically, but I think it's because some of it is called "free art" and that total lack of control/instruction drives her insane! She needs patterns, instructions and formulas. My oldest DD is the opposite and loves free expression. She saw a picture of a quilt in a Joann's flyer and decided she would start it. She's 8. Next week we're going to block off time to start it, without a pattern. :? I googled it and found it was a Chinese Coin Quilt but she prefers to eyeball it.

Ps 150 01-19-2011 05:32 AM

Thanks for all of the encouragements. She's gushing over all the praise. She has the flu right now so this is perfect timing to finish it so she can cuddle with her new lap "quilt".

Somebunny 01-19-2011 06:06 AM

I love it!!! Did you cut it all or is it from one of the kits that I saw at either Michaels or JoAnn around Christmas? Either way, she did a great job!

No, we didn't want to get the kits. She didn't like orange at the time (she was 5 when we started this) so we went to Joann's and bought the colors she likes. I cut them into strips with the rotary cutter and with a ruler, pencil and scissors, she cut the strips into squares and then cut the fringe. With the tiny squares left over from cutting the corners of the fringe, we made a pillow case.

Fabaddict 01-20-2011 06:03 AM

Great job!!! Don't you just love their "sitck-to-it-iveness"?!?!

mimee4 01-20-2011 06:49 AM

Very pretty. She has already started putting colors in a pleasing arrangement. She's on her way to some wonderful quilt design.
