My first attempt at a row by row whole cloth quilt

1 Attachment(s)
Here's a peek at my first three rows of what will be a whole cloth quilt. I started this to challenge my free motion skills. Never thought I would be interested in making a whole cloth quilt, but this process has been so rewarding. If interested, the online instructor is Jeanne Harrison.

Its wonderful, Mavis! What a great pattern! I do mini-whole cloths by hand. Amazing what you have done by machine!

osewme 05-03-2019 09:31 AM

Wow! Your free motion quilting is beautiful. That quilt will be awesome when it's completed.

Fabulous quilting! At least you were open to trying a new method and found that it worked for you. It is a beautiful technique.

barny 05-03-2019 11:38 AM

This is a gorgeous quilt, You are so good, I don't know why you are trying to do a whole cloth, row by row. You have done it.

That is so beautiful, you are doing wonderfully.

Absolutely stunning! I love how you have used a different color thread. It gives more interest to that row.

Can you share what fabric, threads, and batting you are using? I might attempt to give this a try.

Thanks so much for sharing with all of us!

Suzanne

enjoyed seeing this and it never would have occurred to me to do a whole
cloth, row by row...how ingenious! It's way less overwhelming an idea! :)

Just amazing quilting. Our FMQing group, self led as we all bought machines there, have done several Jeanne Harrison projects. She breaks it down, both in print and in YouTube, so that it is achievable. I think you have to belong to her group on Facebook though?

selm 05-04-2019 07:37 AM

Wow Mavis! That is exquisite!

Monika 05-04-2019 08:02 AM

Beautiful work!

Thanks, everyone. I'll try to catch up answering questions. I am using muslin fabric for the front and back. Thread matches the muslin very closely. What looks like contrasting color is the colored Crayola washable marker used for tracing the pattern. I washed the rows yesterday, by hand, in. the kitchen sink, and the Crayola people kept their word, those markers really do wash out. I marked the first row in blue, another in purple, and another in gray. All washed out well!
Yes, Jeanne Harrison group is accessed through facebook, and once accepted into the closed group, you get access to the workbook, files, practice patterns, and some lesson videos are on u-tube. She takes you through the stage of "I can't even draw" to thinking back to childhood scribbling and helps us see by using some simple childlike drawing, we can expand on that and make beautiful quilted shapes. She is an amazing instructor. She is currently going through a serious health issue, so I don't know how much longer her lessons will be available.

Well I was wondering with all these quilters if someone else out there wasn't a part of that group too! Share your progress---we all would love to see your rows too![

Jeanne does have a way of making all of us look like superstars. The true mark of a great instructor.QUOTE=jokir44;8249918]Hi Mavis, I'm also doing the Row by Row with Jeanne. She makes us all look like quilting superstars. Waiting for Wednesday class.
