My First Machine Quilted Attempt

3 Attachment(s)
I finally got my new Babylock Crown Jewel II up and running. This is my first attempt at free hand quilting. I will need LOTS of practice. I love the way the machine handles, but it will take time to actually learn the art of machine quilting. I used my Accuquilt to cut all the squares. Now I have 2 large sewing rooms. This room is dedicated for the CJ and is loaded with light during the day. I just wish it had a hardwood floor instead of carpeting.

Beautiful quilt and quilting! Great job!

Judith1005 05-26-2014 06:58 PM

Looks good to me. I like colors of your quilt. I don't every gravitate to colors that are different then "bright". lol So, I sure do appreciate your pretty quilt. And I just adore simple patchwork. I guess it just speaks to my soul. I'm a better then average piecer. But, I really stink at actual quilting. So, I think it looks great. :)

I love the classic style of this quilt and the quilting. Practice makes perfect and you are well on your way!

You inspire me! I got my CJ a year ago and after the trauma of carrying all the parts upstairs and putting all together, including robotics, I just haven't used it at all. (all by myself). This past weekend I had some time so did play a bit. Now I have a practice quilt loaded and ready to go. I don't think I will be so good at it though. Yours is beautiful! How much practice did you do first to get that good? That is a beautiful quilt.

I don't have a long arm, but for a first attempt at FMQ, I think that it looks fine! A simple design on a simple quilt would seem ( to me at least) a great way to start and I like the result.

QuiltnNan 05-27-2014 03:58 AM

congrats and nice quilting

debcavan 05-27-2014 04:29 AM

It looks wonderful, great choice for that quilt. You will build up muscle memory for finer and finer motion with each quilt.

Camille 05-27-2014 06:10 AM

Thanks everyone. You all encourage me. I have been quilting for many, many years, but this is the first attempt on my CJ. I purchased it last week and attended a MQ camp at the dealers for the weekend. We played but not enough to develop any skills. It's going to take a long time before I can actually say I am satisfied with my work. I think the most difficult part is choosing the right design for your quilt.

Great quilt and i absolutely love that quilt design. I've used it often on my domestic machine.

Beautiful quilt and quilting. This is one design that just eludes me, you did a great job on it!

joyful1 05-27-2014 02:45 PM

Looks like you are doing great so far!

MaryKatherine 05-28-2014 03:42 AM

Don't be in a big hurry to replace the carpeting with hardwood. The carpeting is much easier on your legs.

Great quilt, doing great on the quilting. You're so lucky to have a room for your LAQ machine. You'll be doing cartwheels before you know it.

Nice quilt and quilting!

I DON'T like photos of me, but dh's car club's editor asked that dh take a photo of me with my new toy for their next newsletter. I guess the title will be "If boys can have toys, so can girls".

ccthomas 05-28-2014 05:59 PM

Nice quilt and quilting.

Wild8580 05-28-2014 08:12 PM

Love the colors and great job on the quilting.

trolleystation 05-28-2014 08:19 PM

It looks great. Now you will have to decide which you enjoy more. The piecing or the quilting. Decisions...decisions.

Painiacs 05-28-2014 08:53 PM

Good fot you! Glad your having fun! Thats what its about!!!!

JuneBillie 05-28-2014 08:58 PM

Great job you are doing.

smagruder 05-29-2014 03:24 AM

I really like your quilt. I am sure that as you get more practice in you will become a great machine quilter. Colors are great.

sash 05-29-2014 07:20 AM

I love the way you quilted it. I just can do loops and meandering. Did you mark the quilt? I think I want to do one
like yours. Love it. Couldn't tell, but how are you quilting the borders? Beautiful job btw.
Thanks for showing.

I did not mark the quilt. I should have to get more even arcs. I'll certainly mark the next one. I also didn't add borders. The picture I added above shows it with just the finished binding.
