OK everyone. Hopefully my pics uploaded (first time uploading pics.)
A co-worker asked me to finish this quilt. Her mother (who passed away 10+ years ago) had pieced the blocks, but never joined them. I added the setting blocks, the blue border and the piano key border, and the backing. Then quilted it. This is my first "custom" quilt - that is, not just FMQ or panto's.
Please tell me this is not a disaster.

Very pretty. It will mean so much to your co-worker that you did such a beautiful job. I love the quilting. I hope she does also.

katkat1946 06-07-2014 05:52 PM

First of all, how wonderful that you completed this quilt for them! And you did a wonderful job of it. Your quilting in the "blank" spots is amazing - don't know how you did that:)

QuiltnNan 06-07-2014 05:52 PM

very nicely done

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words. I never seem to be satisfied with my own work, especially when the finished product will go to someone else. (1) the co-worker hasn't seen it yet - I'll be taking it to work with me on Monday. (2) for the question of "how?", I first used Pam Clarke's "Basic 8" stencil to chalk my compass points (here's the link: http://homestitches.com/stencils1.html ), then I used my melon-shaped LA templates to make my petals, positioning them on the chalked compass lines. The "veins" in the petals are FMQ. Again, thank you all for the oh-so-nice comments. I'm feeling a little less doubtful about it now.

I think you did an amazing job piecing it together and the quilting...it's fabulous. I love it and I'm sure your co-worker loves it, too. Thank you so much for sharing with us!!!

earthwalker 06-07-2014 06:30 PM

Beautifully done.....your co-worker should be thrilled to bits. Self-doubt is a killer (I think we all do it to ourselves). You really should be proud of this, you quilted to a high standard and you were very sympathetic to the design.

Doggramma 06-07-2014 07:18 PM

Lovely quilt and the quilting really complements it. I'm sure she'll be thrilled.

QuiltingWithMissy 06-08-2014 06:52 AM

I really like the quilting design you choose to quilt the quilt with. I think it set it off just right.

ManiacQuilter2 06-08-2014 06:58 AM

Very nicely done. Sometimes old blocks can get kind of stretchy like an old worn bra so it makes it tricky to get them to lay flat and square into a quilt. Hope your customer is pleased with the final results. GOOD JOB!!

Kitsie 06-08-2014 08:53 AM

Definitely not a disaster! Lovely work!

This is gorgeous and great job on the quilt design. It's perfect and gives a soft echo to the quilt. Echo may not be correct word but works for me. Love the look of the whole quilt!
