I just finished my first ever quilt last night :)

I started it January this year and started out hand piecing it. However, I got a sewing machine a few months later and decided to finish it off by machine.

I tried out some FMQ on it - definitely need a ton more practice at it, but I think it looks not too bad from a distance :)

Just need to wait for a nice day to get it washed and dried now - hoping it'll hold up ok when I do that!

You did a wonderful job! This is your first quilt? If so, then I cannot wait to see what you will create next. Good for you for trying FMQ...you did a great job on it, too!

That is great and only your first one. You did good!!
Your quilting is very good also. You will not need much practice. It looks like you have it down pretty good.

mygirl66 07-21-2010 03:45 AM

Very pretty, good job!

Rachelcb80 07-21-2010 03:50 AM

You did really good on your FMQ'ing for the first time! Congrats on your first quilt! Have you already started your second? :)

Mishi 07-21-2010 04:09 AM

Thanks all! :)

I have another couple of projects that I've started to piece the tops on (including the BOM blocks on this board), and some fabric for another one waiting to be cut. I think I've caught the bug!

I found it hard to keep the stitches the same length when FMQing - there are areas on the quilt with some really long stitches and others with really short ones. Need to practice syncing up the pedal speed and the speed you move the quilt at :)

I think it looks great! Keep quilting!

Very nice quilt. Are you going to keep it for yourself? I wish i had kept my first quilt. What pattern is this? I am thinking a queen size would be nice for my bedroom. Keep up the great work. Your fmq looks awesome!

CarrieAnne 07-21-2010 04:44 AM

Very nice!

kacy 49 07-21-2010 04:52 AM

Your quilt is very pretty and I would never know it was your first. The fmq looks great. It won't be long until you have the speed and hand going together at a steady pace.

That is a bonny quilt.

Yep, this one is for our house (though I suspect I'll not be the only one using it :) )

I believe the pattern is called Trip Around the World, although I didn't know that when I started making the quilt. I started with this pattern from about.com http://quilting.about.com/od/babyqui...ybabyquilt.htm

I played around with some different colours until I found a combination I liked and added some extra squares to make it a bit bigger (I wanted a lap quilt rather than a baby quilt). I then added on borders to make it bigger again. I think it ended up around 50 x 60 (haven't measured it yet to find out exactly how big it is  )

I just pulled out an UFO from a few years ago - I think 3 and am in the process of sandwiching. I have been practicing on small quilts and this is my first queen size. I am using SITD method. I will post pictures when done.
