I bought a sewing machine in Jan., and these are my first quilts. All for grandchildren . . . I used a newbie quilter, also.

I feel hooked, but I have so far to go. I look at the beautiful quilts on here, and I know I will never get to that; I'm starting at age 60!

ontheriver 05-21-2011 05:52 AM

Great work for firsts. You're never too old, go for it.

MamaBear61 05-21-2011 05:52 AM

You are off to a great start. Your granchildren will love their quilts.

Maggie_Sue 05-21-2011 05:53 AM

Beautiful quilts, never too old to start quilting!!! Love your quilted roses in the blocks, is that done free hand??

Quilter7x 05-21-2011 05:54 AM

Who says you can't be as good as the next best quilter? I think you're of to an excellent start! I wouldn't think to do embroidery designs in open spaces like that and you did a great job. You're selling yourself short. The grand-kids are going to love their new quilts! :thumbup"

All I did was piece the tops. The quilter did the rest.

Beautiful quilt and lovely quilting. Good start.

Briar Rose 05-21-2011 09:06 AM

Thanks for all the encouragement. None of these are full-size, but I'm soon starting a full one with a different pattern. Just to clarify, I didn't do the quilting. She is so nice. She put spaceships and stars on the Ohio Star quilt for my grandson. My label says what I've told him many times, "I love you more than all the stars in the sky."
He is now 1200 miles away from us, and we are taking him the quilt this week!

caliquocat 05-21-2011 09:09 AM

Wonderful "first" quilts! You have a natural talent, you'll be turning out show stoppers in no time!

Barb44 05-21-2011 11:14 AM

Hey, I'm 66 and I'm still learning. I have quilted on and off since the mid 80's but I am not nearly as good as most quilters on this board. But I still make pretty quilts and enjoy doing it. I usually do scrap quilts and use easy patterns. My creativity comes with choosing the 'scraps', layout, etc. I have done applique and more complicated patterns, but prefer scrappy. Just do what feels good to you and enjoy what you are doing.

Your quilts look great.

RuthFru 05-21-2011 11:14 AM

Are you sure you are both newbee's  Your quilts and quilting are beautiful. Good job.

wolfkitty 05-21-2011 11:46 AM

boohoofish 05-21-2011 12:47 PM

I started at 61 (4 yrs ago) and can't believe how far I have come. There are just way too many pretty designs and fabric out there.

Sewfine 05-21-2011 01:38 PM

Good job for first quilts.

GreatStarter 05-21-2011 03:30 PM

Great quilts, and all since January-wow. Looking at 60? You still have lots of years to perfect your quilting. Plus most of us are no where near the level of quilters many of the people on here are. But we can dream can't we?
