My first since an accident!

It's been a LONG time since I posted a quilt that I not only made, but quilted.
I started this quilt since we got home in January....my first since the accident (I fell and broke 2 bons in left elbow, fractured my left wrist and fractured my right elbow --- had surgery on the left elbow)!!! I'm especially proud since the Ortho Surgeon said I wouldn't be able to use the longarm!!! LOL...yeah, right......I may need Aleve every night from the pain, but I'm proving him wrong!!!!!

This is a lap quilt for my daughter -- 47" x 47"........I used Warm and Natural and MetroEmb thread. The pattern is called Hana Bouquet from Kona Bay Fabrics website.

I attempted that little squiggle stuff in the small rectangle and triangles....man, that's harder than I thought!. Which reminds me.....I did NOT screw up! The triangles are not the same size...pattern calls for 2" square and 1 1/2" square. The picture of the quilt even shows the oddness of it. It's driven me nuts.....and if I ever do this pattern again, I'll make them the same size! LOL

The binding will be in the dark green like the inner border. I didn't do a closeup of that border. I replicated the leaf pattern that was in the fabric.

cjackaitlin 04-20-2014 11:54 AM

Pretty quilt. I would make both squares the same size too. Thanks for sharing it with us.

QuiltingVagabond 04-20-2014 12:03 PM

Dee, that looks great! No one would ever believe you are recovering from an injury like that when they see your quilting.

Pam S 04-20-2014 12:06 PM

Looks great. Glad you're able to get back into quilting after your injuries.

GrammaNan 04-20-2014 12:06 PM

welcome back ..... :)

Tartan 04-20-2014 01:04 PM

Both arms?? Wow that's tough! A quilter's got to do whatever they can when they are itching to be stitching! Great quilt and quilting!

Prim Quilts 04-20-2014 01:24 PM

Awesome quilt. You did a wonderful job of quilting it. Glad you are well enough to quilt again.

fred singer 04-20-2014 01:29 PM

Fuzzykittenbutt 04-20-2014 01:35 PM

wow, gorgeous quilting...you'd never know you were injured. But please take it slow and don't do too much too fast!

tessagin 04-20-2014 01:39 PM

your quilt is beautiful. Don't overdo it! you don't want to mess anything up and have to do a do over to yourself! Be really careful.

redquilter 04-20-2014 01:40 PM

Very pretty quilt and I just love your positive outlook. Wishing you well.

Doggramma 04-20-2014 01:54 PM

it's nice to see your work again, Dee. Can't keep a good quilter down.

Quilter 65 04-20-2014 02:52 PM

That is so pretty. Can't imagine what your projects will look like when you are well!! Glad you are better.

nativetexan 04-20-2014 03:43 PM

What were you doing on a skate board in the first place??? Your poor bone breaks sound just like my Sister's but she was on her son's skate board-not for long!! well I'm glad you are back to quilting. It's much better than falling down I'm sure. And I'm with you, if you ever do that pattern again, make the triangles the same size. Odd pattern. Great looking quilt though!

cathyvv 04-20-2014 03:55 PM

The quilt is great - both in beauty and in the 'can do' attitude that helped you through all your recent travails.

Sometimes Drs unknowingly challenge us by telling us what we won't be able to do when we recover. You're like me - you like to prove them wrong!

wolph33 04-20-2014 04:41 PM

Great quilting, nice that you can quilt again too

ROL ROL....I'd LOVE to say I was on a skateboard!!!!!!! ROL......nope... We went to Arizona to get away from that awful slippery dangerous snow and ice. I had a lung/sinus problem all winter and decided AZ wasn't for us this year and I wanted MY doctor. Headed home on 1/28.......FIRST rest area........NO SNOW, NO ICE.....SUNNY....DRY.........and I didn't see that curb. No time to even say "OH, S**T".....I was down and WOW! yeah, lots of pain. Had to come home (docs there wouldn't treat it!!!!) and drove 2 1/2 days to get here. All in all, a WEEK after the fall, they did surgery! NOT a time I want to go thru again!!!!!!

amandasgramma 04-20-2014 04:44 PM

Cathyvv........it was like he put a red flag in front of this bull..........Naw, never tell me I CAN'T do something......:) :)

thank you everyone.....I loved doing this oddball quilt.......and LOVED LOVED LOVED being on the longarm again. :) :)

Very nice quilt!

nana2 04-20-2014 06:21 PM

Congratulations on keeping on keeping on, even with "Patched up joints". There is no joy in having to give up anything that one enjoys and your quilts look like they are a great enjoyment for you.
