My first small wall quilt
4 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone.
As I wrote in my presentation I started quilting just few month ago. I will not show you my first depressing attempt of quilting (even if I am still proudly using my Lap "very narrow...too narrow" quilt.) Here I want to show you my first real attempt...after studying a little bit of technique from the web. I loved to play for the first time with shapes. It is not comparable to the awesome quilt that I saw on this forum...but I am still proud of it! than...my second production was a coaster set. and finally my last work...my first baby-quilt form my friend's newborn! Some mistake here and there...but I think I am improving...and having a lot of fun!! ..and I like the colors and the little owls... so...that's it for now. I bought some new fabrics and I am studying what to do next :-) |
We all started out making lots of mistake. I feel that cooking is similar, you got to burn a few meals before you get the hang of it.
sorry for the attached picture...was a little blur and I tried to cancel it...but as you can see..I didn't:p

This are the real colors...in the previous picture it seems very dark. But they are very bright!

You are off to a great start. Nobody will know they are not perfect. These quilts will be loved as they are. And if you are lucky they will be loved to shreds and then you will have the opportunity to replace them
your first piece is so intricate!!! most quilters would be proud to do as well. Thank you for sharing. I like your yellow coaster mat. was it a pattern??
Mim |
So proud of you! Believe me, we all have begun at one time or another. I learn something new every time I make a quilt, which makes it a win win, right??
Thanks!! I am very happy you all like them ! Thanks a lot to encouraging me !
The coaster I found the tutorial on the web. If you want the link I can find it and send it to you, Mim.just I am not sure if it is ok to share here or if it is better to send it by private message |
I like all of your quilts, and those pretty coasters. You are doing a great job. Yes that second picture of the owls show what beautiful bright colors are in it. So pretty. Your wall hanging is also very nice, with little shapes that many would not begin with so you are off to a wonderful start. :)

Very nice job!!!
Very good!!!
Wow ! Thanks a lot for the nice words! The thing is that I am learning alone from the web...and sometimes I feel like I am not doing things right...but I am happy anyway.
With your great attitude of willingness to try & confidence that you will continue to improve, you will absolutely become a great quilter.
I'm new, too....and as each project is completed, I see myself getting better and better. Still embarrassed over some things, but overall, they are from the heart, and that is all that truly matters for me.
Welcome to the addiction! |
Great work!
One word of advice...Never point out your mistakes. No one's perfect and those mistakes make the quilt an original. Keep at it and show us more! Watson |
all nicely done... i wouldn't guess that you are a beginner.
Well done!
I still spend time unsewing and fixing issues but it is all part of the process. I quilt for the enjoyment, did I say that?, the joy my gifts give others. So here is to the happiness your gift will give those you love - keep on keeping on cuz you are going to be really good. The hardest thing is picking projects that will increase your skills a little more each time without being too challenging so you don't give up. Well done and thank you for the pictures.
Three lovely finishes. Well done.
I have only been quilting for about 3 years, and I learn something new with each quilt I make.
beautiful work, love those coasters. Don't compare yourself to others. we all started someplace. Be proud of your accomplishments. you're doing great!
Those are really nice! I love your fabric choices on the baby quilt. We all had to start as beginners, so keep quilting!
Congratulations! There is no way to learn but just to jump in, and you did it! The main difference between a beginner quilter and an advanced one is that the advanced quilter keeps their "unsewer" handy!
You've done very well! That first one was pretty difficult with all the different angles of the binding and working with half-square triangles. Well done! And the coasters are lovely! I'll bet the new parents and baby will be delighted with the colorful quilt. Great work!

Nice projects: keep learning!
Beautiful wall quilt.
great job and remember... we all started from the beginning too. The important thing is that you enjoy what you're doing. Keep up the good work and welcome to the QB.
You are off to a great start!! I think you did wonderfully so keep it up!
Looks like you are having fun with your discoveries! Love you owl fabric- I just love the many little animal designs I've seen lately at the store.
Your work is beautiful. You have a great eye for color and combining fabrics. I'm so glad you're enjoying- and using your first lap quilt. I'm still using my first one, too. Although it has many mistakes, it shows how far I've come and reminds me of the passion I first felt when I started quilting. My philosophy is that each quilt is a snapshot of what I'm capable of at the time. As long as you continue to challenge yourself, you're learning and mastering the art.
Welcome to the board. |
You are on your way to becoming an addicted quilter! Very nice work and beautiful colors.
You're doing a great job. I've been quilting for about 10 years and make mistakes all the time. Your work is very good, congratulations.
You're off to a wonderfully good start with quilting. If you have fabric left from your "too narrow" lap quilt, you might consider taking the binding off (I know, I know) and enlarging it. Or not. Sometimes done is best!
Very pretty projects. Just keep making them and you will please yourself. Practice makes perfect, as they say.
I can tell, you are going to the top and most likely, over the top. Wish I could produce such innovative piecing as you have done and I have been at it for quite a few yrs. now.
Nice job. I finally pulled my very first quilting project out (a small baby quilt) and finished quilting it. I had started it in a class maybe 15 years ago, finished the piecing, and got some quilting done before life got in the way. It was dreadfully pieced with uneven seams and wobbly borders, but I love it! It is a great example of how far I have come, and besides, when it was quilted and washed a lot of the imperfections get hidden LOL! I am just waiting for a special little girl to be born who I can give it to.

I think your first picture is very nice and if there are mistakes on your projects that is what makes them unique! Remember no one is perfect. Happy quilting ;)
Good for you! Hoping you enjoy many happy years of quilting. You've heard it is addictive?!!!
Your quilts are great. A word of advice, you may see any mistakes you make as gigantic ones with neon signs; but they truly aren't. You need to lighten up and give yourself credit where credit is due. I've been guilty of the same thing, however, please be kinder to yourself.
