Wow!! would love that one on my bed. It is beautiful!
|
really really gorgeous and the colors you used are so sweet!!!
|
Gorgeous! I can see why it took so long! It's OK to put a quilt away for awhile and let it "cure." Then when you go back to it, it seems fresh and you can get excited about it all over again!
|
That is so cool great job
|
Humbird - my hexagons are about 1 1/2 inch on each side.
I have a smaller one I use on Baby quilts - that is less than an inch I think? |

That is just beautiful. I love the colors and the pattern. Who cares if it took years to make. It was worth the wait. You did a wonderful job.

[quote=PurpleBecca]I started this quilt when I was 19!! Finished it when I was 35!!
Its completely hand pieced over paper and hand quilted! Your quilt is simply lovely. I admire your tenacity doing another. I like English paper-piecing, find it more relaxing than any other hand piecing. I began a Grandmother's Flower Garden baby quilt for my first grandson using fabric from all his family, including greatgrands. It's not yet finished and he's graduating HS in June. |
Wow! You quilt is lovely.

I read through all the wonderful comments about a truly remarkable quilt. But what caught my eye was something else in the photo. Do anyone know what they are? sitting on top of the chimneys?
Only certain places in the US will you find the European style Chimney Pots! Remember Mary Poppins and Bert cavorting over the roof tops in the movie. Those chimney decorations are alive and well in U.S. on building that were built at the turn of the century by those who came from countries where these were used. Sorry to detract from the quilt, but I just had to comment on the pots as they are something of a long time interest of mine as an antique collector. (I have sent Becca a PM and hope to get more photos from her.) Is anyone else familiar with these? June in Cincinnati where there are loads of Chimney Pots!!! |
Oh, I love your quilt! I have one in progress too but have been stalled for about a year. Have to get that out, now.
Thanks for sharing, lots2do |
The mere fact that you started this when you were 18-19 years old says that you had a lot of determination to meet goals even at that age. I admire that you stuck with this to the end. What a beautiful quilt you have to show for your time, perseverence and work.

Its completely hand pieced over paper and hand quilted! It would not have taken me that long but it was in a bag for years - sometimes 4 or 5 years before I worked on it and then I would blast at it..... I am now making another one for my Best Friend - she had been married for 10 years when I finished this one and we joked that if I started right away I should just mange to get it done for her Silver Wedding!!! I'm on target - and have another 9 years!!! |
What a treasure. It's gorgeous!
