I'll leave Barbie to another quilt-assassin. lol Gotta share the wealth, after all.

Hi Mad! I can't believe how many people take your creativity seriously. I love it! So glad I finally saw all of the blocks together but haven't got the energy to read so many people dissing your work. I have strong moral and Christian beliefs too but I do appreciate a keen sense of humor, you have it my friend :) That being said, I have always found SBS way too cutesy and from now on when I see one, I will chuckle remembering your rendition. Carry on, I think it is the perfect therapy!

Nanad5 03-10-2013 06:11 PM

My hubby was just laughing as I showed him the pictures. While I don't care for SBS... I would not consider "harming" her, your creativity and work are amazing.

Btucker2714 03-10-2013 08:02 PM

"The Birds" scared the daylights out of me years ago. It's very artistic, however I would have nightmares if I had to use a quilt like that!

kensington 03-10-2013 08:33 PM

I would say that these are insane, but I don't want to make you mad. Thank goodness my name is not Sue! Oh my!

I promise that you are perfectly safe. ROFL

Ah, yes. This is the Mad I know and love. Excellent work. You're much more creative and talented than I was with this.

What a wonderful idea! My daughter absolutely hates Barney. Maybe I could do one for her that kills of Barny like SBS!

purple_butterfly 03-11-2013 05:37 PM

I have a friend who is obsessed with SBS and would see red if she saw these, but I find them hilarious! :D

Everyone's opinion is viable but we have to keep everything in perspective and draw a line between reality and creativity. I love horror movies and crime shows but I also shed tears when I see some news stories or animal rescue shows. Draw that line and keep them separate as they should be.

Mad, I think you've handled yourself with dignity and poise through this thread.

Hmmm....I would love to see a teletubbies quilt done like this.....

Once saw a play about this - LOL!

deanneellen 03-11-2013 07:19 PM

Read all the posts and am amazed at the different responses from people. I am not a big SBS fan cause she is just too cutesie for me but I did enjoy these blocks. Very clever. Interesting how the reactions of people can vary depending on what is being presented. A close friend saw Pulp Fiction and walked out. I ended up seeing it twice cause it was so stupidly funny even if it was gross. Great that we live in a place that allows us to express varying opinions, isn't it?

JeriLovesFabric 03-11-2013 08:04 PM

You do quite nice work and a great imagination!!!

inspectorcmm 03-11-2013 08:16 PM

Very interesting! I'll have to watch for more also. You started a quilt novel lol

heather1949 03-11-2013 10:22 PM

Love it what a great fun quilt, well done.

Janstar 03-15-2013 08:22 PM

Love your creativity Mad! I look forward to seeing more of your works of art!

amyjo 03-15-2013 09:32 PM

I really like your rendition of SBS. I think you have a lot of talent and are very creative. You just keep on keeping on!!! I love the blocks. I can think of a few that I would like to get rid of and 1 of them are the teletubbies. My 1 daughter wouldn't alllow any form or tv show of Barney in her house. I like to read fiction and also love to watch all the CSI's, NCIS's shows, don't have nightmares in the night nor did my kids or my grandkids.

cedarvalleyquilts 03-16-2013 11:55 AM

Extremely creative work...have never been a SBS fan but definitely appreciate the Stephen King and Hitchcock references....great work :)

Personally, I've never liked SunBonnetSue quilts....but, I love yours:) They are so creative and absolutely hilarious. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to go back and read EVERY post.....can't imagine people are not liking what you're doing. Thanks so much for making me laugh....you've got some great talent.

djmat 03-17-2013 10:51 PM

Not much enthusiam here for such macbre quilting but this is America & to each artist his own fancy. As for me, I'd save my fabric for something more positive. You must like SBS a lot because you have given so much time & $ to this effort. Wouldn't it be nice if once in a while you created an original positive block to balance the death & dismemberment blocks! Negative & Positive - that is how the real world works.

germanquilter 03-26-2013 03:51 AM

Agree!! Martina, your blocks are very artistic, very funny and very creative :) Would I make a quilt like that? Probably not since it would not fit with my decor nor do I know anyone to give it too. However, I do have a daughter who HATES everything Twilight so this gives me an idea LOL

tigger5464 03-26-2013 06:58 PM

Exceptional work Mad!!! I do hope to see your finished quilt when done. ROFLOL!!! Would love something like that here also...I know so many people who would laugh so hard at this!! :) Thank you so much for sharing your talent with all of us.

BizzieLizzie 03-26-2013 08:59 PM

I read with interest the title to your post but was not expecting the blocks I saw. Though it is macabre, I am compelled to add my opinions to this already HUGE blog. (I have read most of the posts) To me, the workmanship in the blocks is absolutely fantastic. These blocks would not be for me but I think that people should think of the bigger picture and that is, the creative thought and process involved - NO patterns to copy or to follow for each block. If you have designed a quilt before, you will know that you can draw a pattern on paper but translating the drawing to fabric is not as easy as it may seem. I have done this and I can assure you it is time consuming and depending on the pattern, can be mind boggling. Martina, your talent is really good and I applaud you for your efforts. Thank you for sharing your blocks. I hope that those who seem to have found your blocks offensive/evil will be able to see what I see - the creative process.

With regards to how it depicts horror and scaring children etc. I think that it is up to the adult/parent to protect their own. I have never shielded my children unnecessarily and have always explained things to them such that they have an understanding about what is real and what is not. There is too much out there and I think that a quilt is probably the least harmful of the lot. To each his own, one man's meat is another man's poison.

Let's stay friends as that is what this board is all about. Safety in expression and expression in safety and among friends. One of the rules on QB was that we need to encourage quilters as they come from all walks of life and have their own personal problems to deal with - if we cannot say anything nice, then it was asked that we kept quiet and not hurt the person's feelings. I have always kept this in my mind when posting. Perhaps we need to be reminded sometimes. Best wishes to all on QB.

Cannot believe some of the comments. I think some need to just lighten up. Personally, I just wish you were my next-door neighbor!

I agree with YOU. I bet she's a great neighbor. If you liked these SBS blocks, check out her second set here. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t217258.html

I think they're awesome. Mad is sure full of talent.

debbieumphress 04-03-2013 12:31 PM

Mad, makes me want to add to the original blocks we all did, You are so creative, hugs

Sandpat, you said it! If you will possibly be offended, just don't look!!!! DUH!!!!! I personally love SBS but I have not yet made a quilt of her( although its on my list) but seeing the Kill Sue versions (& I've seen quite a few,) I still find them funny & not in poor taste, just a sence of humor that obviously not everyone can appriciate. Keep up the great work & keep posting those pics!!!!!!!

toolazy 04-03-2013 05:12 PM

Oh my word. I didn't know it was possible to laugh so hard. The imagination and skill that went into these blocks is just amazing!

Now, will someone do the same for that dratted purple dinosaur? Please?

Still LOLing.

mrsk 04-03-2013 06:22 PM

After having read all 39 original pages plus howevermany are on the second instalment thread, I just have to say, I have always had a SBS on my to do list, but now I'm thinking I might make a 2 sided quilt. "Good" Sues/Sams on one side & possibly Sam "doing away" with Sue in various ways on the other. I may have to consult MadQuilter when the time comes!!!!! or maybe just all the fans I've seen here with a "warped" sence of humor!!!!! Great ideas & great execution(pun intended!) of those wonderful ideas, keep'm comming!

Christine- 04-03-2013 07:08 PM

I'm all for it!

Sheri thank you for the new thread...did not know.

MadQuilter 04-05-2013 08:18 AM

Oh my, I thought this thread was finished so I stopped looking and you gals added 2 more pages.

I'm actually a very quiet neighbor. AND I DON'T mean the kind of neigbor who makes the evening news because she did something terrible. The kind where all the neighbors say: "I am shocked - she was so quiet. We never saw her. She always kept to herself." lol I stay out of the neighbors' business but I am there when help is needed. That's the way country living should work in my mind.

Someone mentioned that I must like Sue. Honestly, I don't mind her but I that's not quite like liking (well that was good English, huh?). Mixing the good with the bad just would not work since I have a title for the quilt: "The Chronicles of Sunbonnet Sue's Nightmares"

sandpat 04-06-2013 05:00 AM

LOL, Mad, for some reason, I just can't picture your neighbors ever saying "why, she was so quiet and seemed shy, why I can't even imagine her doing something like that"...of course where I live, that would be followed with "bless her heart" in a sugary sweet southern accent. Nope...you don't fit that bill! LOL!

bearisgray 04-13-2013 10:48 AM

Thank you for posting these blocks. I had been waiting to see them.

madamekelly 01-07-2014 07:40 PM

Iota keep watching this post. I have never seen these before. Hilarious!

Jvan228 01-07-2014 08:07 PM

Oh my, how dismal

Tdejournett 01-09-2014 11:19 PM

You just made my day. I laughed so hard that I wet myself. Love, Love, Love these sick Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Blocks. Never liked the traditional blocks, but these are just plain, sick, twisted, and right down my alley.

Pay no attention to the comments from the stiffs that don't like them. They're so uptight you probably couldn't drive a needle up their butt with a sledge hammer. Our lives have become so hard and complicated now a days that we need to loosen up a little now and then, and you have done just that.

Keep up the good work and let me know what "Home" you have been committed to and I'll bring my machine and join you!

LOVE THEM!

#1piecemaker 01-09-2014 11:22 PM

Poor Sue!!!! Great job on the applique!
