I bet you have a very proud mom!

Perhaps it is the blues, the quilt has a Japanese feel to it.
Wonderful! Did you dye the fabric yourself?

Yes, I did. It took two tries, though. This quilt was a first for a whole number of things: swirly quilting, embroidery, applique, and batik + dying (online tutorials are great!). Laura

Wow, you are brave to try so many firsts at one go!
About batik, did you get a kit for it, or DIY?

It was a DIY... I got the beeswax at the art supply shop and ordered the dyes and tjanting tool from an online supplier. I used rubber bands to hold the fabric bunched together to give a mottled effect. I ironed out as much of the wax as possible afterwards, but eventually had to have it dry cleaned.

Wow, seems like a lot of work. I thought they boil out the wax? I'm curious about DIY-ing.

I tried boiling the first attempt and got all sorts of waxy scum in the pot. Ruined everything.. I don't recommend it, but I probably did something wrong.. I don't know.

Here's where I got the tool and the dyes: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1650-AA.shtml

The store is in Toronto, so if that's not close to you, you might have to look elsewhere.
