I am so impressed that you batiked it yourself. I know how time consuming that craft is. Way to go!

Yes, that part got my attention as well. The quilt is indeed gorgeous and I hope the OP comes back and elaborates on the batiking process she used. I haven't done it since high school and used a wax pot and dyes and then loads of newspaper to melt the wax out. Very messy process. I will buy them! LOL.
If you look closely at the Matisse original (at http://www.wmofa.com/artists/Matisse....html&img=&tt=) , you'll see some beautiful white coral shapes. I couldn't possibly applique those, so I did the next best thing - strips of muslin, a metal batiking tool (like a hollow metal pen that heats up. You put the wax inside and the "write" the design onto the fabric). Then I crumpled up the waxed fabric, secured it with rubber bands, and put it into a dye bath. Crumpling the fabric gave it a sort of underwater look. Then I sewed it on as the border. The starfish are embroidered. It all took a very long time. I messed up the dyeing the first time through and had to start the border all over again. Thank you all for such a wonderful reception! Your comments are so very kind. Thanks. Laura
