My Over the River and Through the Woods quilt

After almost two years, I have this finished. So glad I persevered! DGD has already claimed it whenever she gets a home to use it in. Pictures are not as good as I had hoped, bit had trouble finding the right light and the right day. My life has been crazy since April, to say the least. DH had rectal cancer surgery in April and 5 bypass heart surgery in June and collapsed in hospital room last week breaking 4 ribs..... All since April. This old gal s about past going. All that saves my sanity is to get on this board and look at the pictures of beautiful quilts. Thank you Quilt Board!!! So sorry they are all turned wrong. Don't know how to correct that on my iPad. My trusty old computer has flown the coop, too!!!

Really, quite lovely. Am so glad you persevered. I've got that pattern, too, and cannot decide on the embroidery color. Well, that, and too many other projects in the works.

Actually, I finished the quilting and the binding about a month after the cancer surgery, before the bypass surgery took place. Since then, there's been NO time for anything except to take care of him. Just finally got a chance to take pictures. I am proud of it.

PenniF 07-27-2014 04:10 PM

I love your quilt. Great job! I've seen it done also in red. I just don't think I'd have the patience to do all that embroidery.

Your quilt is so beautiful. Your embroidery work looks great. I hope things are starting to smooth out for you and your husband.

Maureen NJ 07-27-2014 05:13 PM

Beautiful quilt. I have the pattern. Another future project for me! Reminds me of my youth, singing it going to my grandparents for Thanksgiving.

I am so sorry for your husband's illnesses. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Think positive. They have made such advances in cancer and heart diseases. I am so happy you have the QB to loose your thoughts in.

Diane007 07-27-2014 05:25 PM

Thanks for sharing! It's very pretty. I love your quilting on it. I have started this quilt (well the embroidery part anyway) in browns. I hope you don't mind if I mimic some of your quilting...

RedGarnet222 07-28-2014 07:43 AM

Oh dear! I sure hubby is no the mend now.

Your quilt is awesome! I have seen this before, but it never seems to stop amazing me at how much work is in it and you have done a really nice job on the quilting too.

Thank you so much for that tip. I did post some more pictures that I took with my iPhone, and they are in the right position. Did you see them.....after the first post? I just don't like taking them with my phone......can't see what I'm doing with it in the sunlight.

No, I don't mind at all. I'm not very good at free hand, but getting better. I tried to sort of go with a theme in each section....don't know if you can see that or not. In the "thru the woods"section, I tried to do just to bare trees with no leaves, etc. This was on my frame for 4 months before I got it off, because of all the health situations occurring one right after another. I was surprised that it was smooth on the back as I unrolled it. But, it was OK.

tessagin 07-28-2014 09:15 AM

Everything you're going through just shows how strong a woman you are. Your quilt is stunning. I also visit the QB to keep my sanity! All the emotions get put into check and we sometimes need that on a daily basis.

Jordan 07-28-2014 09:54 AM

Beautiful quilt. You did a fantastic job. Aren't you glad you never gave up?? Hope your husband is on the road to recovery and is healing quickly. I totally agree about this QB and sewing-it really helps with the stress. I have this pattern also-you have inspired me to pull it out and start on it but I have a few ufo's to finish up first. Thanks for sharing.

Tessagin, thank you so much for encouragement. I've been told that before, many times, before this. We lost both of our sons (our only children) a little over two years apart, at ages 29 & 37. With no family to help me, I've struggled with the health issues. But, as your said, the QB has relieved my stress on a daily basis. If you're a quilter, nothing like QB can relieve your stress! And, I'm so glad I kept on trying to get this quilt done in little snatches of time. :)
