The picture was a purchased in Berea Kentucky. Every fall my mom and Grandmother made the trip: to see the mountains and changing leaves and visit the artists college there.

I don't know the woman's name. That would be nice, I think it is just a picture of an Appalachian woman quilter.

purchased in the 1980's.

Dragonfly Nana 04-28-2011 03:23 PM

What a treasure you have.

Taffkat 04-28-2011 04:58 PM

While you don't know who she is ... you should come up with a name for her! Kind of like she's your guiding light or Angel! ")

Tears came to my eyes.

Find some quirky name, that seems to "fit" her character.
Beatrice? Gladys? ... oh you could have SO much fun with this!!

I'm going to research some old Kentucky Appalachia names. She is worn, lived hard and still has joy.. look at her stitches !!
Thanks !

Jammin' Jane 04-28-2011 11:01 PM

Who painted this? I can not make out the signature in the corner. Thanks

mimee4 04-29-2011 05:17 AM

How wonderful that you have this from your gram. I learned to hand quilt with such a lady as this way back in the late '70s. Loved those quilters.

I have a quilter picture also. My sister found it in Arizona and sent it to me in Tennessee. It is a lady from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Notice her little hunched back. OK ladies, I know I want to hunch after a long day on the sewing machine or pieceing by hand. Hah!

Maybe it's just this the Dowagers Hump. ha ha.. I love these pictures !!
Forward Head Posture and Dowagers Hump. As we age our spines gradually collapse causing us to hunch forward and stick our heads out.

Homespun 04-29-2011 05:42 AM

No her name is on the inside. I had to take the pic apart and clean because of mold but I didn't write down the name when I resealed the print.... I know you love yours as I love mine.

grannypat7925 04-29-2011 05:46 AM
