Neck tie quilt question?
Did you use all silk ties?
Did you wash before use?

Will this be your center square -or-
are you making more plates??

I have about 40 ties (all silk) I want
to use be need above info.

Dorian, looks great. My husband passed away almost two years ago and I have wanted to make a quilt with his ties. Did you wash the tie fabric before you started puting it together? Also, please show the pic when you are finished. I bet it will come out great.

ButtermilkMama 04-25-2011 09:31 AM

DAWNROBIN 04-25-2011 10:00 AM

I couldn't do that, even if I tried. That is so beautiful. Pat your self on your back for this.

dhanke 04-25-2011 10:01 AM

I agree, red would be the perfect color for the centers and maybe even the background.

deb8746 04-25-2011 11:52 AM

did you use the narrow end of the tie seeing as you used 20 ties? I really like and now counting how many I would need for a quilt I have 300 saved as of now. I was making tie skirts.

Yes, they are all silk. I checked them over for stains, but I did not wash them first. I am going to be making more plates, just like this one. Although, I think I'm going to use the idea of putting a red colored tie in the center.

Yes, I did use the narrow end too. I only got 1 plate out of the end though, the rest came from the wider part. I got about 6 blades out of each tie.

Ziva 04-25-2011 03:16 PM

I love the color,s it takes the pattern to a much higher level. I like this much better than any others I have seen.

jograma 04-25-2011 03:57 PM

I really like it-it has a lot of character. I wouldn't decide on a background color until you have more blocks made. I think you will like it better when finished.

QUILTNMO 04-25-2011 04:02 PM

Crazy Quiltin Robin 04-25-2011 06:33 PM

awesome .......I love it

BevF 04-25-2011 06:51 PM

If you don't quite like it, try making more of a "y" out of some of your same colors. For example: the ties with red positioned at 2, 7 and 10 o'clock. I also agree that pulling out a lighter color for the center might do the trick. See how you like the red, play with different sizes for the right balance.

CMARAS1234 04-25-2011 07:51 PM

I have made a crazy quilt using ties, and donated it to a charity auction. I am sorry I didnt keep it. and no pictures . I will make another one as soon as I collect enough ties.
