What do you think? I'm really not sure I like it. ::sigh::

mymsmess 04-24-2011 06:34 AM

I love it! I want to do one some day!

karenm36 04-24-2011 06:35 AM

You did a really nice job putting all those together. I know how difficult it is to see such a variety of fabrics and wonder if it all goes together. In this case, if this is one of many dresdens that will be in a quilt, the background fabric will be what will pull it all together. Depending what you use, I envision a really handsome quilt!

gaby4v 04-24-2011 06:35 AM

It turned out great. That's my plan for my husband's ties too.

I'm just not diggin' it yet. lol The spoke are 6 1/2" long.

just_the_scraps_m'am 04-24-2011 06:51 AM

what's NOT to like? i think it's pretty neat!

Buckeye Rose 04-24-2011 07:03 AM

Sometimes it's hard to envision the finished project with just one block. I agree that adding the background will make a big difference too, it will help tie it all together....lol. But I do like what you have done so far. It is very bright and I love bright colored things. Keep going and I am sure you will see how beautiful and original it is.

booklady 04-24-2011 07:04 AM

It looks nice! have fun finishing it!

amandasgramma 04-24-2011 07:13 AM

I'll be honest with you -- I've never seen a necktie quilt before...and thought the idea was crazy but I LOVE this one!!!! Keep going -- I want to see a whole quilt out of it!!! I have a vision of it together with red sashing!!!

Thanks for the size!

It could be you aren't falling in love, as you are thinking traditional dresden plate (white background, light prints). Try moving it to a darker background.

I'm not the best at visualizing possibilities, though I think black would be too much. Maybe a taupe? or a dark grey? even a red? perhaps a batik?

It'll somewhat depend on how many more colours your other ties are going to bring forward.

I think it's going to be one beautiful quilt!

the casual quilter 04-24-2011 08:29 AM

Love it, love it, love it!

debcavan 04-24-2011 08:44 AM

You don't get a lot of choice when it is neckties. But I think that center is wonderful and really pulls them all together.

Sandee 04-24-2011 09:07 AM

I like it ALOT!!! If you don't want it....I'll let you know where to send it.....................I think it's Great!!

chairjogger 04-24-2011 09:09 AM

that is way cool !

CoyoteQuilts 04-24-2011 10:26 AM

I love it! If they are ties family members have worn it would be a great 'remember when' quilt...

hairquilt 04-24-2011 10:31 AM

Beautiful! My question would be can you do that using Wonderunder. I want to make one but don't do applique.

Sweeterthanwine 04-24-2011 10:51 AM

Looks beautiful to me. I'm sure when you find the right background color, it will really pop out and you will love it. Great job - I love dresden plates.

CompulsiveQuilter 04-24-2011 12:34 PM

I just did a necktie dresden with all shades of blue (avatar) and I think it's rather boring. I like your's much, much better. But it does need a darker background - I wish I had done the same with mine.

nabobw 04-25-2011 04:15 AM

Good use of neckties

pieces 04-25-2011 04:44 AM

Looks great, the ties are always so colorful.
Thrift shops always have a lot of ties for sale.
But can the finished project be washed?

fidgety 04-25-2011 04:52 AM

I think it is perfect!!!!!!! Add your background and I am sure you will love it!!!

Candy Apple Quilts 04-25-2011 04:53 AM

I think it's gorgeous!

moreland 04-25-2011 05:27 AM

I have no idea what ties you have, but I wonder if you would like it better if you could insert some plain colors or less busy ties here and there around the circle? I think there is no place for the eye to land right now. IMHO.
Wish I'd known about quilting when my husband died--I would have used his ties this way.

ScrappyAZ 04-25-2011 05:33 AM

What a great idea for using old ties! My husband used to have an office job and had to wear a shirt and tie every day. Now he's on the road and can dress more casually. Now I know what to do with his old ties! It'll be a great surprise for him. Thanks for the idea!

Ditto ... I think of all the interesting ties he had ... and volumes of them. Also all the shirt quilts that could have been made! Too late now! :)

matraina 04-25-2011 05:35 AM

I LOVE it!

Hen3rietta 04-25-2011 05:36 AM

great quilt idea for father's day gift, you did great

Bobbielinks 04-25-2011 05:46 AM

Keep going. I'm sure you will like it when it's completed. I think it will be beautiful.

southernmema 04-25-2011 06:00 AM

I think it's stunning! When you get all the "plates" finished I'm sure you will love it. I am making one also, using various red ties for the center and think I might use a dark grey background. We'll see. Just don't stop now as this will be a very unique quilt.

roadrunr 04-25-2011 06:01 AM

I als agree that it depends on the background that will be used. You might not like it now, but I'm sure it will be very nice when you finish it, and the recepient will just love it!

mamaduck 04-25-2011 06:11 AM

I think it is wonderful and you did a great job.
