Need Help--No sashing or sashing???
4 Attachment(s)
I am finishing up the squares for an Anita's Arrowhead quilt. I used western bandanas and leopard print. Now the question is, do I use sashing or not.
This first picture is 4 blocks using the pattern of the bandanas and no sashing. The next one is some gold sashing, trying to blend with the leopard print and I see that I didn't set the blocks right, but am concerned about the sashing. And next I tried a light red And then I tried a darker red So, thanks for looking and any advice you can give me. The blocks square up at 9 inches & I will have 6 across for 54 inches and 8 down for 72 inches. |
I like the secondary pattern you get with NO sashing. You might want to play around a bit to see what you get with different arrangements.
Interesting choices of fabrics - I like them together. For sashing, I liked the yellow/gold better than the orange and rust fabrics. |
I really like the secondary pattern that shows up without sashing!! Be sure and post a picture of the quilt when it is completed!!!!
I like the No sashing, but second choice is with the gold. maybe try a black
I am in total agreement with bearisgray. I prefer the no sashing, but, the yellow/gold if you do sash it. Love the quilt.
I noticed if you put them directly together that a few of the intersections will be off a bit. Would that bother you? If not the blocks do make an interesting secondary pattern. For sashing, I like the gold the best but would like it better a shade darker? I would also like to see the blocks with black sashing?
I really like it with no sashing. The sashing seems to interfere with the design.
If you do sashing, I like the second or I would do black.
No sashing.
I generally like sashing, but in this case I'd vote for NO sashing. Looks great anyway you choose.
No sashing here too. If you decide to go with it, use the gold one.
I would try to find gold the same color as in the print for the sashing or the black.

No sashing......
Normally I love sashing, but this one is so pretty without it. So I also vote no sashing. Love the pattern & fabric you used.
No sashing or the gold. Beautiful quilt.
I vote no sashing. Now this is a suggestion I have, and take it for what it is worth since no one else mentioned it. You might just try the dark blue bandana for a border. Maybe a thin yellow piece in between. I think it will frame the great pattern the prints make on their own. But, what do I know????
I vote no sashing but I believe it will be beautiful regardless of what you choose.
i like the yellow sashing
If you can be sure your points will match (and there will be LOTS of them), then go with no sashing - for all the reasons stated above. If you need sashing I would like to see a black fabric used.
I also am amazed I like it better without sashing......usually I vote to put it in!
if the animal prints where they would meet together, dont' fit together well, I'd say sashing for sure. either way they are cute.
Like it without sashing.
I like no sashing. It gives a great deal of movement and drama
i think i would like to see it with black ...jingle may be onto something ,,,,,love the fabric and the block
I just finished one and did not use sashing. My albums are open to all, so you can take a look. I prefer without sashing. This fabric selection is fabulous.. Love it...
I like the pattern flow without the sashing.
I, too, like it better without sashing. If you just play & switch your blocks you can match up your seams better as tartan was talking about. For instance, switch the top right & the bottom left & then turn them & that will match up much better. I love how you done these blocks. Will make a stunning quilt when completed.
imho I like the gold but no sashing is beeautiful also!
No sashng!!!! Nice. have bandanas but never thought of doing that!!
#1 choice no sashing # 2 gold. I'm not in favor of either of the last two colors. Black may work but you have a cool pattern going on, either way can't wait to see it done. You are much more adventurous with the two fabrics you put together than I am. It is so great to see yours so now I know it's possible for that sort of combo to work.
The first arrangement looks great without sashing. I personally like the third arrangement with the gold sashing. Black sashing would be my second choice. The sashing will make the quilt a little larger.
I think the one without sashing is the best. I love the interesting design created by the layout.
I would go with no sashing, but use a white flange , then a black border and a final outer border of the leopard print.
No shashing
I'm usually a washing kind of guy but in this case I like it without. If you do the dark red.
kinda like no sashing but with a border
No sashing - it is very pretty without.
I vote no sashing as well. I much prefer the secondary pattern emerging without disruption.
My vote is "No" sashing. It looks amazing the way it is. In my opinion some blocks look better with sashing. This is NOT one of them. You get a secondary effect when there's no sashing and I LOVE it!
