During the summer I pieced this quilt top !!

The pattern is Turning Twenty Again.. Now the problem. Everyone wants it and my daughter and i have different opinions on how it should be quilted...

she says flowers, twigs, swirls and the backing black...

I say... just a all over design because it so busy.. with gray or yellow backing...
and the neighbors say feather the whole thing.... :)

This is where you all come in... My daughter says if you go with her idea's, then she should get the quilt.. !!!

If you go with mine then i will keep it.. ha ha ha

Okay Ladies and gents.. It is now open to you.. :)

I have two pic's...
So...

LoriEl 09-25-2011 11:17 AM

You shouldn't have told us who wanted what if you wanted it fair! It is very busy so I do think the more simple quilting will look nice. I like the idea of a gray back.

girliegirl 09-25-2011 11:17 AM

i say a soft grey back and grey thread, and a basic stitch very pretty.... quilt goes to Lynnnnnn or you can send it to me for my birthday! ha ha ha ha

Carrie Jo 09-25-2011 11:17 AM

I agree with you. sorry daughter.

sewwhat85 09-25-2011 11:18 AM

i think black for backing would be too dark

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 11:19 AM

Your probably right.. but.. oh well.. I think it will be fair...

She doesn't know that i will probably give it to her anyway.. :)

I think flowers in the larger squares with simple quilting everywhere else. I would go with the yellow or gray backing. I think black would make it look to formal or heavy.

Charming 09-25-2011 11:22 AM

This is a very very busy quilt. I personally don't like this pattern because of how busy it is, so the simplest design is best. Backing i think since it is all bright colors should be grey to calm it down and an edge to edge design would fit best...IMHO

Pls don't hate me :-( any of you...lol

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 11:24 AM

Oh I LOVE it.... :) that was good... and yes it is very busy...

Lisa wants it so bad her head is spinning.... ha ha ha

I am reading what has been sent in and she is yelling No No I want it with black backing.... ha ha she is so silly

Grandma Jane 09-25-2011 11:41 AM

An all over design of flowers and swirls. I think a yellow patterned backing would be pretty. or gray pattern.

I think she is out numbered!

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 11:54 AM

I agree.... so at this point I am going to do what i wanted to do all along... I might put flowers in the plain big squares.. maybe... but gray thread, gray backing.. and simple, can't see it anyway, the quilt is too busy... she is learning to quilt, and I am teaching her that a busy quilt needs simple... a plain quilt needs more quilting...

Thanks for your input :)

You win!!

knlsmith 09-25-2011 12:15 PM

Sorry, both. I like the black backing, but also the aimple all over design.

mandyk 09-25-2011 12:15 PM

Much as I love black, you need to tell your daughter that the quilting will not show up as well as gray. So all her leaves, flowers, etc. Will really be lost. The gray with gray thread will show the quilting. Perhaps you can find a pantograph using the more open designs with flowers and leaves, for a co promise. I love your quilt, and think it's more attention grabbing in your colors, than busy.

gmaybee 09-25-2011 12:43 PM

I think a gray backing would be nice. Black would show ever speck of lint. Then a simple design for the quilting. If you do the leaves etc. it will be lost in the of the quilt, because it is busy. I love the colors of the quilt. Nice job.

Love this quilt! Swirls, leaves, flowers in the bigger squares would be beautiful :) Agree with the grey thread & backing.

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 02:32 PM

Thank you all for your input....

It is Grey thread .. grey backing.. and swirls, with some flowers and stippling.... :)

This was fun. :)

COYOTEMAGIC 09-25-2011 02:34 PM

Black backing, quilted with yellow thread with flowers and Bumble Bees!

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 02:37 PM

Thank you for your comments... I have told her all of this, she still insists on black, but, we are going with the gray. I have panto's, but I have never used them on this machine, so it will all be fmq...
Lisa is piecing a quilt top and i am going to have her do a panto on it so she can get the movement down.. and then go into fmq. So far she is going to be good as long as we all can get her to read a quilt.. ha !!! That is why we decided to do this...
So everyone's input has really helped...
Thank you so much :)

the casual quilter 09-25-2011 02:37 PM

I'm with you. The prints are pretty busy so I'd do an allover. As far as the back, I like the idea of both the gray and the black.

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 02:38 PM

OH YES!!! Lisa said Oh YES.. Love's your idea..... Thank you so much :)

I LOVE THIS QUILT! I think I should get it! :-D And the way I want it quilted is with gray backing and yellow quilting! So modern! May I ask which fabrics you used?

Totally agree! Love the color combo too. Just made a quilt with the exact same colors and really liked how it came out. Was wondering why I had never thought of putting yellow with gray before. Then I looked around and realized that the entire downstairs is painted yellow and I have taupe (leaning gray) carpeting. LOL

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 03:40 PM

You are too funny !!!! :) You made me laugh... Ok, most of the fabric's are from Joann's. Two of them are from a lqs, two of them are from Walmart, and one is a 1930's real feed sack. Joann's has the new section with the little blocks , charms , triangles all cut out, and jelly rolls. Plus they have fat quarters also. That is where I got most of the fabric's, and they have some on the bolt so I was able to get the border fabric as well. A few of them I picked up a few yrs back.. and I used it all in the quilt and do not have any idea who made them.Sorry about that....
Thanks for asking and for your compliments :)

emsgranny 09-25-2011 03:47 PM

definitely a gray back with the simpliest of quilting. If you had some of the gray with what looked liked little yellow butterflies on it it would look good - I would say this would be good for a dorm room - it would keep the student warms and also keep them awake to study lol The colors are great but a little busy for me. lol

Gramyx7 09-25-2011 03:59 PM

I like that idea too .. Butterflies... My daughter is 30 and love's it. My DIL 28 and wants it.. so not sure do i cut it in half.. ? ha ha The quilt is 102x108 a biggie.. so I don't know what I am going to do.... I might have to find all the colors again and make another one but different design.. oh boy... :)

I like the all over design idea! Very pretty!!!

suekenyon 09-26-2011 03:42 AM

Very pretty.

lfletcher 09-26-2011 03:59 AM

I think an allover design would be best. More intricate quilting wouldn't show up.

Delta 09-26-2011 04:10 AM

Good Morning. I Love the Turning Twenty Again. I have made that a couple time. I stipple quilt mine. Just the all over pattern. You are correct it is a busy pattern in its self. I love the colors. You did a great job.
good luck

CajunQuilter2 09-26-2011 04:20 AM

Love the colors in the quilt. Can't wait to see the finished product..

missionquilts 09-26-2011 04:22 AM

Oh my word!!! I used this exact same fabric for this exact pattern!!! HOWEVER, to add some brightness - I used red for sashing between the blocks!!! Still need to quilt it!! Love the fabrics!

Rylandon3 09-26-2011 04:58 AM

1st of all...what a pretty quilt! It is a busy one and I'd prefer to have it done your way, also. I'll be posting one that I did and I think the quilting turned out to be too busy...hard decisions, sometimes.

Quilting Angel 09-26-2011 06:48 AM

Oh I love it!! Turned out so pretty.

carrot 09-26-2011 06:55 AM

My vote is for all over design. I think anything else will get lost.
Be sure to let us know the outcome !!!

deanneellen 09-26-2011 06:57 AM

I like your idea the best. Simple designs and basic grey backing.

grannypat7925 09-26-2011 07:15 AM

I'm with you. I think a simple all-over design would be most apopropriate.
