I am making one of those bento box patterns and I can't decide which layout to use. One has the same colors in each block and the other has 2 colors in each block. My husband liked the 1 color, but his thinking is never outside the box. My kids liked the 2 color and I think I am leaning towards it. Not so boring with a little more interest.

The first one is easier on the eyes. Looking at the second one my eyes went everywhere, no where to rest.
I love the first one.
The first one is nice, my favorite.
The other one is VERY busy! |
While I normally am an out of the box kind of girl...the first one for some reason is easier on the eye. I would separate those two purple blocks at the bottom right...they jumped out at me. :)
I should have added I love your color choices and your work looks great.
This pattern is another that's on my 'to-try' list. Yours has wonderful colors. I prefer the first outlay.
Definitely the first one. The pattern is a busy one and the same colors together help the eye follow the pattern. It's hard to see the design when you mix the colors.
This is going to be really pretty when you get it put together! |
I vote for the second version. I think it is more interesting to have 2 colors.
I go with DH on this one, do the first
The 1st one is more to my liking. Show pictures when you get it quilted. I know it will be gorgeous!
the first one
I have to agree with everyone...the first one! It is beautiful, can't wait to see it when it's finished.

I agree with obxqwlter about the purple ones on the bottom. Also, the orange are too close. The rest seem to be spread out nicely. In the 2 rows, you have 3 purple and 4 orange. The rest is spread out nicely. Good job! |
Thanks for your quick replies. I am going with the first one. I guess my husband was right, just don't tell him I said so. The first one will be easier to put together and I am planning on working on it today, it is snowing and what better thing to do.

I like the first one too -- great choice!! Now we want to see it when you're done :D
Glad you decided on the 1st one...I like it better too...It is gonna be a great quilt when you get it done!
I like the first one. The second one is too busy for me. Love the colors!
That is going to be one awesome quilt when done....glad you decided on the first layout, it's my pick too. (Your hubby won't hear it from me! lol)
I like the first one - glad you chose it.
i started to say the first one but the second one fools the eye and makes the quilt look more difficult, which is the whole purpose of the pattern.
i am glad that you decided on the first layout-easier on the eyes! can't wait to see it all finished, remember to post your pictures!!! i love the colors that you picked for this quilt also.

I like the secondary design you get with the first layout.

I( agree with above ) like #1 and #2 is to busy. |
The first one....definately!!
Ditter |
I agree. The first one is easier to look at. It's gonna be beautiful.
Trust me, I'm a think outside of the box kind of girl but I like the first one. If you want to add interest and give the eye a place to rest, why not add some sashing?
That was just the 140 blocks laid out on the floor and I took a digital picture of both layouts. The colors will be more dispersed through out the whole quilt.
After getting started putting the blocks together, I am so glad I went with the first view. Thanks all for the imput. Sometimes you just need someone else's different perspective on things. Thanks, Mary |
glad you went with the first one..that was my favourite!
It's really hard to choose, but I think I like the 1st one best.
I prefer the first one...the second is too busy , in my opinion. But you have the vision ....so go for it.
My vote is #1. Love the colors.
I agree with your DH on the first one, the second one is too busy, IMO!! It's your quilt, do whatever makes you happy!
Boyfriend and I both like #1 (one color) better. I see the pattern better, and he says "the pattern gels better for me".
First one
