This is my first D9P and I was very happy with how it looked until I added the borders. I didn't have any fabric left from making the top, so I went and bought some, but I'm afraid it doesn't really blend well. This is going to be a Christmas gift for my in-laws, so I want to make sure it looks okay... the binding will be the same as inner border and the backing the same as outer border. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance!!!

Lacelady 12-07-2010 09:47 AM

Your green borders bring out the green in the small squares, it looks fine to me.

Theresa 12-07-2010 09:50 AM

A lovely quilt but I can understand your concern. I'd use a "pink" thread and stitch between the two greens to show more blending. Gosh, you may have already used some decorative stitch there. If so, perhaps some thin pink ribbon can be woven through the stitched area. Regardless, they will be delighted!

Sadiemae 12-07-2010 09:52 AM

Very nice!

Cyn 12-07-2010 09:53 AM

I think they will love it!

amma 12-07-2010 09:54 AM

I like the borders too :D:D:D

craftybear 12-07-2010 09:59 AM

looks fine to me, thanks for sharing

ranger 12-07-2010 10:09 AM

From what I can see, it looks great. As Lacelady said, the green in the main area is brought out by the border fabric. Perhaps it would help if you posted a pic showing the full quilt.

IBQUILTIN 12-07-2010 10:12 AM

I agree with the rest. I am sure they will love it

scowlkat 12-07-2010 11:40 AM

Well all I can say is that if they don't love it, I surely would! So you can just send it on to me! LOL! Seriously, I think it is fine the way it is but if you did want to add some pink ribbon or stitching, that would be fine too!

sgardner 12-07-2010 11:45 AM

I think it looks fine. Yes, it doesn't match exactly, but to be honest, it's not as if the colors clash or are too far off in shade/tonal value, so if you step away from it, it's still pleasing to the eye. That's what I see- something that is still pleasing to the eye.

kwiltkrazy 12-07-2010 11:46 AM

I think the borders look good. If you are still not satisfied with it, maybe you could do some raw-edge applique on it with some flowers that have the main color in it to make the border blend a little.

deltadawn 12-07-2010 11:48 AM

Great job.

sgardner 12-07-2010 11:48 AM

Here's another thought too- if you had any of that dark pink left, consider hand stitching a few hearts or bows from that fabric in that area along that outside border- that would tie it all together and make it look like you chose border colors different "on purpose".

Very nice idea!

dellareya 12-07-2010 01:38 PM

I like the color of the borders. It look beautiful to me.

Mariposa 12-07-2010 02:19 PM

Very nice!

SuziC 12-07-2010 02:25 PM

Not to worry...they will love that quilt!

Kitsapquilter 12-07-2010 02:55 PM

What are you using for binding or is it already done? If you used one of the fabrics from the center of the quilt then it would all blend in together. I like it.

bjchad 12-07-2010 03:24 PM

I guess I'm going to be the dissenting opinion here because I think you could do much better on the borders. Maybe it's my display but the borders look brown to me. I would prefer something more along the color lines of the light green squares for the inner border. With that the outer border might work better. Or something with more reddish coloring for the outer. These borders are adequate but I think it would " pop " more with different values ( even more than different colors) in the borders.

Just my two cents. Interested in what others say.

texaspam 12-08-2010 03:53 AM

I think it might be good that you ran out of fabric. You chose some nice fabrics to coordinate with it. I haven't made a D9P yet. You did a nice job on it.

trueimage 12-08-2010 04:12 AM

I like it. I wouldn't change a thing!

Lisabet 12-08-2010 04:16 AM

Hi I like the choice of green

Roselandc19 12-08-2010 08:01 AM

I like it.

Penny Schindler 12-08-2010 10:20 AM

I would have liked to see the borders in the opposite places. The outer border looks like a transition strip that would take the flow from purple to green, then the more green to the outside. Just my opinion! And I can not see myself unsewing all that!

RuthV 12-08-2010 11:28 AM

Just my opinion but I think a burgundy color similar to the inside would look much better and carry that color out to the edge and also bring out the burgundy in the outside border. I am meaning for the binding.

ann clare 12-08-2010 11:31 AM

Looks fine to me.

Stitchnripper 12-08-2010 12:53 PM

I like the green. Does the adage "It doesn't have to match, it just has to go" apply here? It goes very well in my opinion.

Sandi Furtado 12-08-2010 05:29 PM

I agree with Theresa, pink thread and stitch between the two greens. Awesome quilt!!! Sandi

Looks fine. But if I were to knit-pick, I'd say that both borders have the same small print to them and blend together without much contrast. What might be more pleasing to the eye is a skinny solid of a true light or dark to contrast with the outer border (which I love with the small specs of rose color).

Without taking it apart, but helping it blend a bit, you could use fabric from the outer border and make circles and applique a handful of random "dots/circles". That might help blend things for you. While you are at it, maybe throw a few circles of your main fabric out in the border too!

butterflywing 12-08-2010 06:22 PM

it's very pretty. the main part of the quilt has green bits. the green border has pink bits. everything blends nicely. when they see the quilt, they'll see how pretty it is and they'll love you for making it for them.

milikaa1 12-08-2010 08:51 PM

I think it looks good, you have the pinks and greens in the panel, so to me the borders pull it together.

Latrinka 12-08-2010 09:22 PM

I think it's purdy and I bet they're gonna love it!

BrendaB 12-08-2010 10:41 PM

I love it just as it is. Pinks and greens are great matches.

FortMyers 12-08-2010 10:43 PM

Love the border, I agree with the others, somehow add some pink into the border may help with the visual, but I think it looks great as is.

Ileen 12-08-2010 11:18 PM

Very, Very Nice!!!

rona thickpenny 12-09-2010 01:44 AM

I would be very happy to think some one had made that for me as I am sure your in laws will be . The colours are fine.well done.

sawsan 12-09-2010 02:02 AM

I like the border with the pink flower if it is closest border

Your quilt is lovely as it is. Do you have any of the WHITE / green fabric left? If sew............ I would use it to bind the quilt as it would draw the whole quilt together and not over power it.

jdeery 12-09-2010 09:40 AM

I can see why you picked the green, but I don't love it. Have you even thought of a black or really deep green? Just a thought.
