I think that perhap-s that is a 4-patch Posey rather than a Stack=N=Whack. Much easier to do

I'm not 82 but I wish you lived closer so that you could teach me

Stunning !

Lucy90 12-04-2010 09:40 AM

What a beautiful quilt. I'm like everyone else you are so lucky to have someone to teach and help out. I would love to sit and cut threads if I had someone like that to enjoy quilting with. Savor every minute with your aunt.

Jabear617 12-04-2010 10:45 AM

I showed her how to make scallops and she is doing the binding now. When she saw the quilt all quilted, her smile was worth it all!!! Love my Aunt Betty.

Bless you to have all that patients. Be glad she can comprehend most of what you taught her. The quilt is beautiful!

Kitsapquilter 12-04-2010 02:48 PM

Very pretty. You are a good niece to clip those threads for your dear Auntie. I love stack 'n whacks and this reminds me that I have some fabrics waiting to be made into a s & w! I better get busy.
I love the scalloped border on this one, too. Looks lke you did a nice job quilting!!

What a great collaboration....I would love to have a quilting partner of senior years (bit cheeky, but it would make me feel young!). It's a beautiful quilt and you did a wonderful job with the trimming and quilting....can't wait to see your next one!

Gayle's Quilts 12-05-2010 03:25 AM

It's Beautiful.

anicra 12-05-2010 04:02 AM

Love the colors. The quilt is great.

Extreme Quilter 12-05-2010 04:10 AM

Anyone who is 82 and can follow and remember instructions on how to make her first stack and whack has got to be forgiven for forgetting to cut threads as she went along! Bravo to both of you!!

My sentiments exactly. I got the stack n whack book but haven't done one yet. I don't like the outsides of them. Now I know what to do if I ever get to one. In fact I just thought of some fabric that would be perfect.....hmmmmmm....here we go again......

DeeBooper 12-05-2010 05:19 AM

I also sew with my mom of 80 years.....I taught her as well. We have so much fun!

quilt3311 12-05-2010 05:26 AM

I hope if I make it to 82 that I am half the stitcher your Aunt is. She did a beautiful job. I hate clipping threads too, but try to do that after each sewing session.

DeeBooper 12-05-2010 05:34 AM

Thank you all for the wonderful comments on Aunt Betty's quilt. I will pass them on to her so I can see more smiles. She has some beginning alzheimers( I believe) so she goes through periods of depression. She made a beautiful woven table runner a couple years ago that I guided her on. (took a year to make but she finished it). I made her put it in our quilt show and she won first place!!!! Now that was a big smile!!! BY the way....the sashing on her quilt is not white,it is a very light blue. She has a way of picking out absolutely gorgeous colors. I am learning from her how to pick good colors. I wonder what she wants to make next? My mom is 80 and we all sew together.

JAGSD 12-05-2010 05:49 AM

Beautiful!!

Deb Thies 12-05-2010 05:51 AM

I think @ 82, she was just focusing on completion of the top for you- I agree that your time spent clipping those $#%^ threads was bonding time. It is beautiful- what an event to be so proud of

sewing4kix 12-05-2010 05:52 AM

Your aunt is a quick study! Very well done :)

978gray 12-05-2010 05:55 AM

Bravo Aunt Betty

Clipping the thread for an82 year old is a small price

sandpat 12-05-2010 06:05 AM

It was worth all the time and effort! Very pretty

Fabaddict 12-05-2010 06:44 AM

missmabeliowa 12-05-2010 06:52 AM

Absolutely beautiful!!!!!
I am so new to this that I've never even heard of a "Stackn Wackin" Is there a site I could go to and find the particulars on it? I truly love it.

dunster 12-05-2010 06:55 AM

Very nice. I love the scallops. You do beautiful work together.

pstoner 12-05-2010 07:22 AM

Beautiful quilt, and you should be so happy that you were able to teach your aunt something new, a lasting memory that you will one day be thankful that you have.

grann of 6 12-05-2010 07:35 AM

As far as the snipping of threads goes, if her hands are anything like mine, and I am not even 82, it is a very difficult job for me. I try to trim as I go so I don't have the big job in the end; but am not always successful at that endeavor. That is why I chose machines that built-in needle threaders, and built-in thread cutters.
