I taught my aunt (82 years young) to make a StacknWhack quilt. I promised her I would quilt it on my shortarm before I had to take it down to make way for my longarm. Well, she finally got it to the point where I could do that. I told her right from the very beginning (and at least a hundred times during the making)to cut her threads as she goes along. Guess what? Not one thread was cut!!!!! I spent 4-5 hours cleaning it first.Oh, well, I finally got it on the frame and it is really beautiful. I will post a picture but it is without the binding on it. I showed her how to make scallops and she is doing the binding now. When she saw the quilt all quilted, her smile was worth it all!!! Love my Aunt Betty.

That is a gorgous quilt. Love the colors.

That is an absolutely beautiful, very well made quilt. Clipping the threads gave you time to know the quilt first hand. She did a super job. It is beautiful. When I am 82 I hope I have someone to clip my threads and teach me new and fun things. Bravo to you. Job well done.

I love it. It's the first Stack and Whack that has inspired me to try it. Beautiful :D

Bravo for your Aunt. At least spending 4-5 hours snipping threads you got to relax for a while. A wonderful quilt and I especially like the scalloped border.

sandyo 12-04-2010 05:27 AM

It is beautiful. I love stack and whack. I'm sure she appreciates all your help.

my thoughts exactly!

I can say this is one of the first stack & wacks that I can truly say is absolutely georgious. I love the rich blue color and the sashing around each block gives it a uniformed look. I can only hope and wish that when I'm 82 I can do wonderful work like your aunt has done. Kuddos to you for showing her how to make this quilt. Thank you for sharing!!

how fun to have your aunt as your newest quilty friend. You must be Some teacher... her quilt is gorgeous. :-)

Tinabodina 12-04-2010 06:07 AM

My mom is 85, and I have been trying for 10 years to get her interested in quilting, or helping me. No luck, and now I have given up. You are so fortunate to have an 82 year old with the same interest. It is beautiful.

Aunt Betty did a wonderful job,and so did YOU.

quiltsRfun 12-04-2010 06:22 AM

At 82 years old you have to be a little forgiving. She probably got caught up in the excitement of the project and forgot to clip the threads. Be sure to let her know how much we all loved her quilt. It's gorgeous, one of the best stack and whack I've seen.

Doesn't this inspire all of us "young" ones (I'm 63) to forge on ahead and keep stitchin!!!! This is a beautiful job and I love the scallops on the quilt...it just finishes it off beautifully! Great Job Aunty!

Gorgeous!

arpdesigns28 12-04-2010 06:29 AM

You know what? I don't even consider cutting my threads while making the top or quilting. I'm 28 years young, and do it the hard way. My thought is to just get through it, get it done, and then worry about the quilt threads after it's quilted, edges trimmed, and bound. That might be something I should do. But, you and your aunt did a great job on it. Very pretty!! :)

Tally Kathy 12-04-2010 06:41 AM

You and your Aunt make a great team! Maybe you can give her a thread snipper for a Christmas present/hint? :)

DA Mayer 12-04-2010 07:31 AM

I guess with that pretty of a quilt I could forgive my aunt for not trimming, maybe she was afraid of clipping the material. You did a great job and so did she, what a pair you make to get the job done.

I have to echo everyone else's sentiments and say that is a beautiful quilt and you are a marvelous teacher. Wish you lived closer..I am not 82 yet but would be willing to learn from you! The scalloped border really makes the quilt. Great job on both of your parts. Thanks so much for sharing the pictures.
