I really wasn't trying to make this one look like a flower like Grandmother's flower garden. I decided to go with the dark blue center so it would pull the blue more into it. I thought the green worked in this one, but the blue almost looked like it didn't go. And since they are the fabrics this lady cut out so many years ago with her 2 daughters, I thought I really needed to use all of her fabric choices.

It has been rather difficult to make since it isn't anything I would have chosen. I think it is really sweet of the daughter (my principal) to have this made for her mom. It was a project the mom had planned on making for the daughter so many years ago as an aniversary present. But it was too overwhelming and it was never made. Now the daughter has decided to give it back to her mom as a mother's day gift. Sweet, don't you think... now if I can get it done!

Not sure how many rounds on the center flower but the smaller ones were either one or two rounds (may have been some of both sizes). Slept under it for years, but didn't pay that much attention to the pattern (wasn't planning on quilting then either)and now it's gone with the rest of the stuff when our house burned several years ago.

That is a heart breaking story! I used to make porcelain dolls for years. I don't have many left, but the few I have are dear to my heart. It would really crush me it they were lost through a fire or broken in a move or something.

that's great too. what ever you do to use them all up should work just fine. nice of you to do.

No, I don't know how... but I wouldn't have time either. It needs to be done by Mother's Day and I work full time.

i like this one better than the other grouping, too. The first one was a little hard to look at and this one is actually pretty.

I like this layout the best so far. Do you think you could use the extra brown you've got laid out on the left to make some kind of trailing stem? Maybe the green could be placed as leaves...I'm new here and haven't even made a quilt yet so I'm only going by looks. I might try to use the extra red to make a few more flowers and connect them with the trailing browns as stems. Maybe that's easier said than done, I'm sure it is.

I admire you for trying to do this. It's hard enough to flesh out your own vision sometimes let alone someone else's that doesn't match your taste. Good luck. I'll look forward to seeing it finished.

I like your layout. I'm not a big fan of "grandmothers garden" but I love hexagons.

I agree with Dixiechunk. I like it like this.

so do you have any updates? Pics? I am really curious to see how it is going for you.
