For my first paper piecing project, I did Judy Niemeyer's Wild Goose Chase pattern. I think she makes some of the most incredible quilts but I found paper piecing to be very tedious. Since I was always sewing on top I paper I missed seeing and feeling the fabrics. I think it will be a long time before I paper piece again. I wanted to make this quilt a UFO so many times, I really had to force myself to finish it. And that is the first time this has happened to me in the year and a half I have been quilting.
Trade Winds was a fun and easy quilt. I used the Mango Margarita Bali Pop and some of my stash. The pattern is available free online. I added an extra row on the bottom to make it look more complete. http://www.fatquartershop.com/free-q...ne-pattern.pdf My final picture is of a new ironing board I bought at a large national discount store. It cost about $25. When I got it home I was shocked to learn that the ironing surface was not flat! Why would anyone make an ironing board with grooves in it? Please don't make the same mistake I did. Stunning quilts. Great photography. Is that your pond? It is beautiful! I do not believe I would paper piece a large project. don't like removing the paper.
lovely quilts!!! and thanks for the free one!
By the time you pad your ironing board it will be ok. Love your quilts. It is worth the effort to make yourself finish something you are tired of.....Job well done:)
Your quilts are beautiful and well done. The pond is really pretty--so soothing to view. Put a big board on your new ironing board and it will all be fine!
you do fine work! Nice quilts!
Your quilts are beautiful and your pond area is, too. Very attractive photography. Nothing wrong with your ironing board, put your padding on and you wll never know it is eneven.
sorry about that ironing board..all the padding in the world will NOT make those grooves go away...as the pad gets hot and thins out, it will have those grooves in it as well....
your quilts came out wonderful....great job and great pix! |
Your quilts are lovely and the landscaping is gorgeous! Ditto on ironing board - they have holes in it for steam to escape, but my board cover got wimpy and sunk into the holes... Fortunately it collapsed and broke, and I now have a utility table 24" x 60" and a couple layers of W&W and muslin - works great.
Love your geese! :) :) :) :) |
Your quilts and pond are stunning. Outdoor pictures really enhance the beauty of a quilt. I also love Judy Neidmayer patterns.
Gorgeous quilts, love your pond too! What a perfect setting for photographing your work. Weird deal about the ironing board, wonder what the theory is behind that?
Very beautiful quilts, love your color choices! Oh .. thanks for the link to the pattern .. much appreciated.

Hi, I went to the site that you posted, but there isn't a paper pieced pattern there. There is a strip pattern, but it doesn't have any instructions or templates for paper piecing.
Your quilt is so very beautiful. |

I love what you did. The patterns are easy to reproduce. It's your fabric choices, however, that make them really good. The ironing board, however, is just plain stupid! It was obviously designed by someone who did not understand pressing and wanted to scimp on the materials by using ridges instead of thickness for strength.
I like them both. I did a tradewind in batiks and I see you put that extra row on the bottom also. Thought it looked strange with only half a row. very nice!!!!
You are very talented!!!!
your quilts are beautiful..
beautiful quilts!

Thank you for the ironing board ideas. I am going to try adding several layers of batting to see if I can create a smooth surface for pressing. One pad and cover was not enough to do the trick. You have no idea how much I appreciate your kind comments. Elise |
Beautiful. DEB

Beautiful quilt! Love the pond. I have seen those ironing boards before - can't remember when but it does ring a bell in my memory.
Thanks for sharing your quilt with us.  8-)  |
YOUR QUILTS ARE BEAUTIFUL!! I can't say which one I like best, and the pond is absolutely gorgeous. You must spend as much time in the garden as you do quilting.
The grooves are to allow steam condensation to drain away. Use a double or triple padding and you won't notice them. (too much)
Oh and just an idea for the ironing board- you could cut strips of batting to put between the ridges before putting a solid piece of batting over it. Good luck with it.
Beautiful quilts, gorgeous garden/pond setting.
Beautiful quilts-especially love the border on the first one!Wonderfuls colors!
