Okay ladies. Here is part two of the sewing room renovation! I have been soooo anxious to see this. Some of my machines lined up on the counter...lol Course they are getting ready to be put back up, we had to set them up there to cut the holes in the counter. Why holes in the counter? Because I hate threads all over the floor. I've had to deal with that forever. And this will take care of that. Where the holes are cut, there will be those plastic shopping bags hung so that while sewing all my little snippets will go down the hole into the bag. When done I can just remove the bag and throw it into the trash! Yeah!!!! I know cabinets can't be built like this in the stores because they have no idea where you would be sitting your machines and what size they are. But when you have your DH doing the work, you can do it like this.lol This is just one of several ideas I plan to be putting in this room to make my life easier.lol

Great idea and wonderful DH!

mytwopals 06-21-2011 12:47 PM

My sewing cabinet has a slide out with a hole just like your new space. Just brush the threads into the bag and throw them away.

Jennifer22206 06-21-2011 12:48 PM

that's a cute idea. I use an empty butter tub for my threads. :) Looks really nice! What a handy DH

Just Me... 06-21-2011 12:52 PM

I would drop quilt pieces, seam rippers, pins, scissors and everything else down there! It seems that is my 'catch-all' place when I sew! ROFL

blueangel 06-21-2011 12:57 PM

That is a wonderful idea.

We will be putting those small hooks that you use in the kitchen to hang coffee cups on.

you could say that. Because, besides the ones shown here, my main machine will set in its cabinet in the the middle of room. And then there is my quilting machine which takes up a whole wall by itself.lol

Ilovemydogs 06-21-2011 03:47 PM

Good idea!

quilttiludrop 06-21-2011 03:54 PM

Congratulations on custom cabinet work! What an excellent gift for you!

What a clever idea. I can't imagine going anywhere without threads on my shirt, socks, slippers, or some kind of clothing. People would think I quit sewing.

Lol how funny. I know the feeling.

Can I ask how big your room is? It's fabulous and I can't wait to see the finished product.

My room is the size of a single car garage. Before we bought the house they had converted it to a room. When we bought the house we decided since it was so large it would be my sewing room. Now its being converted to a sewing studio. I have lots of ideas. And this is my chance to get them built in for me. lol So everything I've thought about, dreamed about, wished about is going to be put here. Its hard to be patient. But, its a chance of a lifetime as I see it, and I am willing to be patient. I think as long as I'm seeing progress though, I will be okay. lol

What a wonderful opportunity to have such a good sized space and to be able to design it yourself. And having a handy hubby is such a bonus! Enjoy every wonderful moment in there.
