Nursery Rhyme Rag Aplique Quilt - Just an idea, suggestions please!

3 Attachment(s)
Hi, this is my third attempt at quilting - well, I think it is more a merged art form that came from ideas that popped up in my head. This is a rag quilt, with a nursery rhyme/story embroidered in to it. I appliqued ducks on and then did some free emboidery to enhance it. I would love to do more of this, but I know there is SO MUCH room to improve it - so please any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. I did do one other, and will post it as well - it is a Dr. Suess rag quilt.
Thanks in advance for any help you have to offer!
Dolly

I think it is adorable!!

DollyMomma 06-10-2012 09:02 AM

Oh thank you Brenda (and everyone else too!) I have absolutely no idea where the ducks went....I had never heard this rhyme before, but when I asked what Zander liked (it was for his 1st birthday) his aunty told me he loved this rhyme and it was what she used to calm him down when ever he was upset. So I had an idea to make something that was just for him (the back is personalized too) - it took a few weeks of meandering in my brain and that is what came out - my problem with it was size - but I have learned quite a bit on this one and the Dr. Suess (by the way it is on this list under Dr. Suess rag quilt) - so I will be doing another one soon.

I think it is very very original - both the layout and color combi. It is colorful without being overbearing, tastefully done!

serenitybygrace 06-10-2012 10:42 AM

I don't think it could be improved. It is absolutely adorable. I love your little ducks and your hand embroidery really makes the ducks and writing that much better.

nancyw 06-11-2012 08:37 AM

I have also heard it go this for the last verse Father duck said "QUACK, QUACK,QUACK (Real loud) Four little ducks came hurrying back. May be you could add this to your quilt if it needs to be longer. If it needs to be wider add some borders.

solstice3 06-11-2012 08:58 AM

I think it is very artistic and an outstanding job

irenecarter 06-11-2012 11:29 AM

Are you kidding? That is beautiful, different, and sure to be loved to death by anyone who is lucky enough to get it. Can't you just see children's fingers caressing the ragged edges? They will love the tactile effects on this quilt.

lollygagging 06-11-2012 03:26 PM

Your colors and design are fantastic. I wouldn't change a thing. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing.
