Awesome!!!! :)

hperttula123 08-31-2011 05:11 PM

Oh wow!!! I seen the first fabric show up on my screen and I was just trying to picture how awesome that one would look before I even scrolled down. It was even better than I imagined. :) Can't wait to see this one finished.

blueangel 08-31-2011 06:42 PM

Awesome

leatheflea 08-31-2011 07:12 PM

I dont like OBW's but I like this one, great work!

CorneliaVa 08-31-2011 07:32 PM

Veeeerrrry pretty ....

Questions: what was the "repeat" on this fabric ... and how many yards did you use? ....

arizonagirl 09-01-2011 01:29 AM

I have the same fabric. I bought it after seeing the same fabric in a book: One block wonders cubed by Naxine Rosenthal & Joy Pelzmann. On page 52 they fussy cut one of the dragons out and then stiched all the details on the dragon to make it stand out and have it going in and out of the blocks.

sweetpee 09-01-2011 03:09 AM

Please tell me how this is made. Is there a tuorial for this pattern or where can I go to learn how to do this. It is very beautiful. Thank you

The repeat was 24 inches on the nose, and since you want to use 6 repeats for a lap sized quilt I got a little over four yards. Which was a good thing, since they only had 5 to begin with I got the remnant just in case I wanted to fussy cut something.

I was actually thinking of doing that! I have one full print of the dragon left in my scraps, and once I have the money for an applique book I'm going to give it a shot. It's funny how one fabric will catch people's eyes. :) I'm going to have to find a picture of their version, I'd be very curious to see how we differ.

I used the book One Block Wonders by Maxine Rosenthal--she's basically the queen of this type of quilt. I highly recommend you pick it up if you want to do an OBW, it is very clear and straightforward on how to go about making these kinds of quilts.

mldsews 09-01-2011 04:01 AM

It's beautiful but what is OBW quilt

sandyo 09-01-2011 04:02 AM

I should have the lion's share of the top pieced today, but I couldn't resist sharing this picture of my cat this morning. What a brat! She knows she's not supposed to be up there.

Brat!

What is a OBW quilt????

Homespun 09-01-2011 04:47 AM

Very nice. How do you decide where to place your blocks?

DianneK 09-01-2011 04:51 AM

WOW, I really like it

ree-nee 09-01-2011 05:05 AM

Black and red and white quilts are so pretty

mammab 09-01-2011 05:09 AM

I love it. I have that fabric, or one very similar that I am planning to do a OBW or kaleidoscope with. Hope mine looks as good as yours.

BuzzinBumble 09-01-2011 05:13 AM

Love it! Brynn, you picked a really cool fabric (which I cannot believe you found at JoAnn's!), which is half the battle. But you made your OBW come out terrific because your did a great job sewing and arranging the blocks. They are fun, aren't they?

I just separated them by value and color and started throwing them on the ground. If I didn't like where a block was, or if it stood out too much, I moved it around. I took most of the day to decide on this layout; I'd move a block or two, do something else, come back to it, realize it looked awful, and move more things. I really like OBW's that have a pillar of color in them, and since the red was so vibrant in this fabric I thought it would be a perfect fit for that style. The book is really helpful for deciding how to lay your blocks out, I highly recommend it.

(I use that particular googled page a lot ;) )

Geri B 09-01-2011 06:07 AM

wow...you are braver than I...bought the book, read it and put the book away....way too intense for me to try...but I do admire the look.....the process sounds like it can really be patience-testing....

It's actually really easy and relaxing once you get into the swing of it. The assembly is a piece of cake, you just have to pay attention to the orientation of the triangles before you sew them together, and after a while I didn't even have to look at the back of the fabrics. Lots and lots of ironing though!

newbee 09-01-2011 06:27 AM

Wow, it is amazing. Good job!
