What a fun, original quilt! It makes me smile just to look at it.

it all works. the star looks wonderful and not all out of whack with all the bias. she did a great job and kudos to you for finishing it.

Your mom had a great eye for color! I wouldn't have thought to use the blue/yellow plaid with a lone star but it totally works!

came out very pretty. the background is a bit buggie on my eyes though. I remember making a star this way. cutting each piece out first and sewing it individually together.

It's a real treasure from the 70's and will always remind you of your mom. What a great thing to have it finished.

Well, you say that "in those days" they cut all the pieces separately. I have to confess that - being an ignorant newbie - that's exactly what I did about 4 or five years ago with a lone star for a baby quilt! I wasn't even aware that bias could be a problem :o I hand pieced and hand quilted it. And I did the same with fabrics as your mom a few decades earlier: There was not one piece of "real" quilting fabric on it (didn't have that back then). It was all cotton, but part of it was from old bedding, part from a table cloth, part from a shirt... you get the picture! Turned out quite nice, though, and was much loved by the recipient!

Special quilt that is so pretty.

I don't think I'd be quilting today if I had to cut each piece separately.
