From this lovely Asian fabric, I've tried to create a picture - of rock pools surrounded peonies and cherry blossom - carp playing in the whirlpools!
It is quite big (65 ins x 56 ins) so it was difficult to get a good photo and I eventually ended up with it on the floor. The fmq "rippling water" in the borders looks light but is actually a variegated blue, and the fabric is darker than the photo shows it. the original fabric The One That Got Away appliqued fish in border swimming away some details cherry blossoms |
This is really cool. I love it!

That's VERY NEAT LOOKING!!! Love it.
WOW! I will admit that I would have not even cut the fabric up. I would have just sandwhiched it and handquilted around all of the designs so that it looked like hand applique. Your blocks are fantastic. It is beautiful fabric.
Your quilt is amazing! That pattern is on my LIST! The list just keeps growing! Yikes!
Wonderful job. Very artistic.

Very lovely.

That is AWESOME!!

I always love the colors in the Asian fabrics but not necessarily the Asian art look. This totally changes it up. Just beautiful!
Love the way your quilt turned out. Especially like the carp swimming out of the pool into the border. Great job!
That is gorgeous! I especially like your FMQ in the borders - such a great feeling of gently undulating (how's that for a word!) water.
I love it. You did an awesome job on it. Great fabrics.
Just beautiful, very clever. Love it.
This is amazing. So creative and very well done.
love it. I think large Asian prints are perfect for this technique.
Awesome quilt. |
This turned out beautifully! I love the carp swimming away and sashico quilting in the border is the perfect fina touch, you thought of everything.
Absolutely beautiful! IMO you've actually IMPROVED that beautiful fabric! This is a real pictorial interpretation and I love it! Plus your FMQ is outstanding - I bow down to you! :-D

I'd give you an A+....wonderful!!

Don't you love those OBW? So many ways of putting them together. I love what you have done with that georgeous fabric. You've got a treasure there. Beautiful!
Beautiful! I just love this! I am going to try this techniques in a few weeks....I already bought fabric...but I may have to change to an Asian theme.
That is super cool!
Thanks all for your comments. I hope some of you who've not done an obw will have a go at one - they are really interesting and enjoyable to put together.
Charismah and DebraK - I agree with you, I've made several of these with Asian fabrics because those prints (and colours) lend themselves so well to it. I've got another Asian fabric for the next one awaiting. Renee765 - I found I had to concentrate very hard on the fmq in the border with all those lines - I felt quite giddy once or twice  mpspeedy and Marsye - I very nearly didn't cut it up - its the first fabric I have had real problems lining up the repeats - whether it was because the design elements were spaced out so much I dont know - but it was a real pain. But I'm pretty determined  |
Very nice.
Love it!! :) :)
That is absolutely beautiful, awesome job.
Amazing and beautiful!!!

You have once again made another awesome OBW :D:D:D |
Love your quilt and the quilting is so appropriate.
Spectacular!!! I love the finished blocks. I don't have the eye to see what you did when you first picked out that fabric. I'm amazed at all the variations from that one print.
Very Nice!
