One of Those Days!

Did you ever want to just scream? Glad I noticed this before I put the borders on.

Tartan 11-23-2012 04:09 PM

NOOOOOO! I bet you noticed it when you took the picture to put it on QB? Aren't you glad you decided to post a work in progress picture and not the finished quilt?

huntannette 11-23-2012 04:10 PM

dang darn it...........

sandyl 11-23-2012 04:11 PM

I must be blind....can't find your problem.

on edit:
OK, I really had to study it but I did locate it. I would call that artists interpretation and go with it.

Look at the light colored diagonals.

CRH 11-23-2012 04:18 PM

It always has to be in the middle, not on the edge!!! :(

SittingPretty 11-23-2012 04:19 PM

I did a very similar thing, but didn't notice until it was all quilted and bound! Only 2 things left to do: ignore it and hope no one notices, or rip out the offending piece and sew it back in. Yep, I did the 2nd choice. Wasn't too hard, but it sure taught me a lesson to look twice before sewing!

It happened last night when I was getting tired. I had to rip and re-sew three times on that row, then decided to call it a night. But what makes me really mad is that I didn't notice it this morning when I added the last two rows. Can't bring myself to get out the seam ripper right now.

MTS 11-23-2012 04:54 PM

A bit of targeted and localized surgery, and it will all be better.

It never ceases to amaze me how easily things can go awry, no matter how much care is taken, walking the blocks from the design wall to the sewing machine.

When it happens to me, I just want to scream.

On another note, I like the setting you used for your blocks. Very striking.

QUILTNMO 11-23-2012 04:56 PM

hate when that happens have done it some myself

Cyn 11-23-2012 05:15 PM

Wow I really had to look for a while to find it!

Marycumi 11-23-2012 05:18 PM

It took me a while to find it. Aggravating, but not too far to correct it.

barny 11-23-2012 05:20 PM

I must say, I went over everything and couldn't find a THING wrong. Until someone said look at the light diagonals. Well, I almost didn't find that little piddley thing . No way would I change that! I love it.

debcavan 11-23-2012 05:20 PM

It took me ages to find it.

JudyTheSewer 11-23-2012 05:21 PM

I had to really study to see what the problem was. When I finally spotted it I smiled! I kind of like a little something special in a quilt - LOL. (If it were mine I would have to change it to go the right direction though!)

Rose S. 11-23-2012 05:30 PM

I did not see it till someone said to look at the bright colored....more proof that we are our own worst critic.

busy fingers 11-23-2012 06:00 PM

I feel your frustration.

justme 11-23-2012 06:02 PM

It took me a few minutes to find it... I like it... I wouldn't change it but then again if it were mine I would have to fix it. lol Like the quilt..

It took me awhile to find it, too. If the pic was posted without saying something was wrong, I never would have seen it.

alikat110 11-23-2012 06:14 PM

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

Helen S 11-23-2012 06:54 PM

I ALMOST didn't notice it! lol Almost. At least you caught it in time, so not too big of a fix. Pretty quilt!

hperttula123 11-23-2012 07:42 PM

I've done that before. Most of the time, I just leave it. :)

LoisM 11-23-2012 08:16 PM

Oh, no! You poor dear! I always seem to catch my mistakes by taking a photo (while it's still a WIP as Tartan mentioned).

fleurdelisquilts.com 11-23-2012 08:27 PM

I guess we've all been there. I noticed it on a quilt that I finished quilting yesterday. I'm leaving it. The offending block is a log cabin block sewn in like yours, sort of turned around. But it's way bigger and is quilted with feathers. Picking out the feathers is bad enough, but then to get the feathers to fit together after.....no way. I'm not that skilled and I am not ripping out all the feathers in all six large blocks.

My mom called that an Amish error: she said the Amish believe that perfection is God's thing. So they purposely make an small mistake in every quilt, so as not to offend God. (or something like that) Since their visit to Amish country several years ago, "Amish error" have been our family's "my bad."

sahansen44 11-24-2012 04:36 AM

I like it that way... but then I love wonky...

Jackie Spencer 11-24-2012 04:40 AM

Omg I have done this... ripped it all out..... then did the exact same thing again!! Then you really feel like a Ninny!!

sew_Tracy 11-24-2012 04:41 AM

Going to be really cute! Done that several times...I leave them if not too obvious and call them vanity blocks :) I think I would tend to fix that one for sense of balance.

kathbug 11-24-2012 04:47 AM

Wow if someone didn't point it out I would of never noticed it. I know that if it was mine I would but probably when it was finished!

DebbE 11-24-2012 04:50 AM

Well, I've been awake sine 2 a.m. this morning and I REALLY had to look before I noticed it. But it would bug me if I didn't fix it -- leave it a day or two and then do it. You'll laugh about it later, I promise! : ) Lovely quilt

Just Me... 11-24-2012 05:05 AM

I used to try to take a pic of my quilts in progress and look at them on the 'puter screen for that very reason! Glad you caught it!

Barb in Louisiana 11-24-2012 06:21 AM

Isn't it funny how they are NEVER on an outside easy to rip area? I have found that when I have to rip the 3rd time & I know I am tired, I quit sewing & rest or sleep, according to what time of the day it is. After ripping 3 times, I know it is only going to get worse. Ask me how I know!

I really like that quilt. Is there a pattern name, or a combination of blocks? If so...which blocks?

Baloonatic 11-24-2012 06:55 AM

Ooooo piddle phoo! Doncha just hate it when that happens! Shouldn't be difficult to fix though, its just great you found it before it was quilted!!

northern lass 11-24-2012 07:26 AM

Oooooops a daisy!

dove 11-24-2012 07:32 AM

omgosh...i'm sooo sorry...i would definitely want to scream...ugh!!!...

It's a pattern from P & B Textiles called Autumn in New England. I've had it for a while so I don't know if it's still on their site but you can check and pbtex.com

LoupEsprit 11-24-2012 08:38 AM

Yep. Did something similar with one of my projects. It's in the UFO bin for now until I decide if I want to fix it or leave it.

majormom 11-24-2012 08:58 AM

Well, it adds character to the quilt! You've seen pix with a whole school of fish going one way and one little fish going the other haven't you? Just showing his independence that's all! I'd leave it just as it is and if and when anyone ever noticed it I would claim artist's prerogative :-) Incidentally, I had to look and look for the boo boo and I'll bet most people would have to too.

sewbizgirl 11-24-2012 09:16 AM

I would have turned another one that way also, probably the one in the white row above it, second full "bowtie" from the upper right corner. It would have made it more 'artistic', messing with the perfect symmetry. But that's just me.

DEJAHG 11-24-2012 09:20 AM

Have to laugh...still took me quite awhile to find the problem! Could have sneaked it past me!

MimiBug123 11-24-2012 10:24 AM

If it really bothered me I think I'd just applique a little square on it and call it done. You will be adding some tactile interest, that's all!
