Yech! That is criminal! Who could sew on that without being blinded?

NancyMaria 07-16-2011 03:12 AM

I don't like it at all; and I don't think it would be very calming to have to look at that color while quilting!

QUILTNMO 07-16-2011 03:32 AM

yuck not my favorite color

OmaForFour 07-16-2011 03:37 AM

AMEN TO THAT!

From the price they have on it, I can only assume that they LOVE the orange and really want to keep it.

Debbie C 07-16-2011 04:11 AM

It hurts my eyes - please make it stop!! lol!

Roberta 07-16-2011 04:22 AM

Orange is my favorite color but not that shade and not on a FW.

MaryAnnMc 07-16-2011 04:25 AM

I think she looks very cheerful in her orange coat... I wouldn't turn her away from my sewing table!

Fabaddict 07-16-2011 04:39 AM

OMG, they ruined it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PamB8s 07-16-2011 04:47 AM

Can't have that in Razorback country!

Kim Bohannon 07-16-2011 04:52 AM

what an aweful color for a sewing machine! The problem with a machine of that color is it would clash with a lot of sewing projects... probably make quilting difficult at times.

Wonnie 07-16-2011 05:00 AM

OSU ( Ohio State University) colors are red and gray..........orange???????????

Stitchit123 07-16-2011 05:02 AM

This looks like they had it Professionally painted-No drips or runs from a spray can And it looks like auto paint I zoomed it as big as my screen and its a beautiful paint job. The $700 reflects the cost of the machine and that paint job. But wearing sunglasses to sew in a dark room would have disastrous results I'd offer them $100 after they put her back to her original beauty

dkquilter 07-16-2011 05:03 AM

That would make most of my quilts look very dull indeed.

Ha Ha

cindy4857 07-16-2011 05:05 AM

it almost looks like a fake or a copie of the real thing. But for sure I couldn't sew on it, I'd go blind!

marshaKay 07-16-2011 05:17 AM

Reminds me of "Tang", the breakfast drink. It sure is interesting.

countrycottage 07-16-2011 05:32 AM

That's just a crying shame, but I'm not surprised. There is a man that sets up at the Tyler, TX quilt show each spring that offers them in pink, purple, and other wild colors. Guess it's just what appeals to you. I, for one, prefer the good old-fashioned original.

jeanneb52 07-16-2011 06:20 AM

To each his own...but personally I hate it!

grannypat7925 07-16-2011 06:22 AM

OMG - another dreamer!!!

Wunder-Mar 07-16-2011 06:42 AM

This is a perfect example of Team Spirit getting waaaaay too far out of hand.

luvstoquilt 07-16-2011 06:48 AM

You would need sunglasses to sew!

Quiltbeagle 07-16-2011 06:51 AM

I've seen some FW's painted different colors that are actually very nice, but I couldn't sew with that thing without getting a headache! It's just too bright.

Debbie B 07-16-2011 06:51 AM

I kind of like it. It's different, but the price would be out of my leaque. I've seen a purple one that was to die for at a garage sale, but it had already sold.

jad1044 07-16-2011 06:52 AM

OMG - why?

pollym44 07-16-2011 06:54 AM

OH MY!!!!!!

emlee51 07-16-2011 07:22 AM

My eyes are hurtin'!!!!

judyyoungs 07-16-2011 08:37 AM

I think that is sad. JMHO

A couple of comments about refurbished FWs and prices...

First, you don't know what shape the machine was in to begin with. If it was severely damaged by crazing of the paint and/or oxidation and the paint eroded from the machine to the point where it was unuseable something had to be done. Two choices - toss her in the dump or refurbish her. If you toss her she has no life left, no more sewing to do, no more joy to give. If you refurbish her she has many more years to go. If you refurbish her the question is what color. I submit if you redo her in black you are not doing anyone a favor who may buy her thinking she is original and in pristine condition. Not fair to a buyer who would pay $700 for a pristine FW (they are out there, believe me, just follow ebay bidders long enough and you will see). So, I think your only choice would be to paint her a color that was NOT original. Now, orange may not be your choice (but I happen to love it) and, BTW, $700 is not outrageous given the cost of the machine to begin with, stripping it down, painting it properly, and reconstructing the machine in proper, well-working condition. Plus, if the machine was in really bad shape it probably didn't have a case and may have needed parts to put it into running condition.
Just to recap, although I would never, ever, repaint a useable FW, I see no harm in redoing one that is not useable. But to be honest to future buyers by not putting out a machine that could be mistaken as a pristine original I would never have one repainted black. You cannot misrepresent a FW painted any color other than black, tan, and white to a knowledgeable buyer. I might even conceed that it would be real hard to paint a machine to reasonably masquerade as a white or tan machine to a knowledgeable buyer.

valsma 07-16-2011 08:44 AM

Ick! and whoo! I was wondering why someone from Oregon State University would do something to a lovely lovely old machine like that for, there colors are Orange and Black. Thank goodness that thing is in OK. You would need sunglasses to use it.

My husband made a point. If they ever have a devastating tornado or the owners house gets robbed and it get stolen; the owner will be able to identify it.

ORSunshineQuilter 07-16-2011 08:45 AM

Not my cup of tea but if you are an OSU fan, maybe?! My husband took a featherweight that was destined for the junk heap and transformed it into a beautiful swan. He cleaned it all up, made sure it sewed again, then painted it with Chameleon car paint. As you move past it, it turns from blue to green to purple! It really gets comments when I take it to a sewing class, let me tell you!

majormom 07-16-2011 08:52 AM

That's gross. :XD:

gramquilter2 07-16-2011 09:10 AM

I like it and the price is cheap, I have seen the colored ones for up to $1500. There are lots of the repainted ones out there!
I am looking for a red or purple one and I will use it right along with my black and white FW's

dphelps 07-16-2011 09:33 AM

Hope Billy sees this.

Looking on the 'bright' side - nobody could accidentally walk off with the wrong machine.
