I agree and that's why asked..."how much is a featherweight worth?" --of any color???

$700 will buy a lot of modern sewing machine won't it? Why does it have to be old? My mom has two, but I know she got them at yard sales.

I'm one of those who don't respect an antique just because it's an antique. Many antiques around here are just junk--the people just put them in their attic or basement instead of pitching them in the garbage. Then, they think they are somehow worth a lot--when they aren't.

but how much do featherweights bring? I thought the most expensive would be a few hundred...not closer to $1000 than $300! What do they cost? What are people paying?

I say paint it any color you want if you if it is yours!

My grandmother had a saying -- "Asking is one thing, getting is another." In other words, what the buyer pays may be far less than what you asked for.

Put some dark blue trim on that machine and a Florida Gator fan will buy it.

there are some up on ebay that have a rate aroung 700 but the don't always get any bids starting off at that point. The machines can go from 30 up to a few hundred; I would never pay 700. Some people hear the words, rare or antique and figure it's worth the high price. I paid under 300 for mine and it is in fantastic shape and most of that was shipping. I'd be surprised if anyone buys it; not as much because of the color which I think personally was a crime to do to it but because of the high price. It's a shame though. It would be nice if someone got it and restored it back to orignal

Shame on all you bashers. It's a beautiful color and an even more beautiful machine. Granted, there aren't a lot of people out there that like the color orange, but I am one of the blessed few that loves orange. OH, and I'm not a sports fan so that doesn't play a part in it.

Now, with all that said, I would not buy it either. The price is too high and even though I love the color orange, I can't say I'm swooning over this shade. I have three FWs and have been planning on painting one of them orange for over a year now. Not to sell, but to have and use and enjoy in my sewing room.

IT WOULD BE LOVELY IN A SOFTER 'BURNT ORANGE' WOULDN'T IT?

yes, softer BURNT ORANGE would definitely be better.

You'd never fall asleep sewing with this machine!
It's one in a million!

angelahen 07-26-2011 02:24 PM

HI
I have an original black and a white featherweight. I have only recently come across them in different colours. I like the pink ones, and although I like orange - emm not so sure!

My color of choice would've been SDSU Jackrabbit Blue and Yellow.
I can't even afford a black or white one. Still dreaming of getting one.
