Orange and teal quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I'm a mostly a low volume / monochromatic quilter, so I was forced out of my comfort zone to make this quilt. I wanted to give a meaningful gift to the wonderful lady who took care of my three children for the last 8 years (my youngest is going to school after the holidays). Her favorite color is teal, but she also love anything bright and cheerful, so a blue-grey quilt was out of question. I spent weeks procrastinating over my fabric selection, adding or removing some, never sure it was right. I finally had to take the plundge so I could offer it to her for the farewell party. As soon as it was finished, I look at it and everything just felt right. Lesson learned: I shouldn't over-procrastinate and just go for it.

So glad you stopped procrastinating! This is a wonderful quilt and looks like you handled "out of your comfort zone" quite well.

What a pretty color combo I would have never thought of! And getting outside of our comfort zone can be a good thing and your quilt is a perfect example of doing just that. I’m sure it will be a treasured gift, well done!

That's lovely! I recently did a very bright quilt out of my comfort zone in several regards. It was fun, but I'm back in the comfort zone for my next few projects...

Yes indeed... I had an not so subtile exchange offer prepared in my head in case she wouldn't like the color combo, but I really didn't had to say anything. She just saw a corner of it and her face told me it was a done deal :-)

I understand what you mean; comfort zone is where we feel confident and competent. But I think this project (and all the wonderful comments of member of this board!) have help me to extend a little my comfort zone! I'm willing to try a few more projects like this.

I think this is such a lively, cheerful quilt. I can certainly appreciate the hesitation of going with a palette you're not comfortable with. Very thoughtful and courageous of you. Bet there will be a lot of happy tears when you give it to her.

jmoore 07-31-2019 02:36 AM

I love the fabrics you chose...they work wonderfully with your pattern. Great job.
