Are thes blocks suppose to be kittens or butterflies.
I guess I did not understand. I just thought it was suppose to be difficult>>> |
quiltwoman, Those blocks are beeeeuuuutiful!!
|
salsaquilter, your block is wonderful and I'm sure it would be a challenge for me although it looks like you have "tamed the beast". This thread though is for a block SWAP that several of us have signed up for. Hopefully you can join us next time ...your work is beautiful and I would love to swap blocks with you!
|
Once again salsaquilter your work is amazing. Is there any particular reason you choose to hand piece it? From what you have done, I can see just how lovely it will be!
|
All of the blocks are really great! So much really fabulous work.
I feel like I am behind as all I've had time to do so far is print out the patterns!!! I am finishing up a quilt for my MIL & want it finished by the fourth of July because my BIL is coming for a visit then & can deliver it to my MIL when he goes home. Then I will get started on my blocks. I am really anxious to get started! Jo |
Awwww...thanks Sandpat. I have really had a blast w/ this swap. It's funny, I don't think I have alot of fabric but so far, I'm finding plenty. Still, I need to go to the quilt store tomorrow for....FABRIC

I have a question for Annmarie:
You're number 7 on our list and this is what it says: 7. Annmarie Block: Butterfly Blocks/ Any pattern and size Colors: Any color choice ** You may paperpiece, appliqué, embroidery, or piece If I recall correctly, it's a twelve inch block. I could put a border on it that would even it out to 12.5". |
Cordelia you can give Anmarie any size block and whatever you have. She wants to make a quilt with all kinds of butterflies.
|
Oh, it does say any pattern and size. I totally glossed over that. I had in my head it was 12.5".
That's easy then. |
Beachlady & Sandpat - your butterfly blocks are GREAT! Can't wait to see them for REAL!!! We'll probably all be crawling the walls by January waiting for our blocks!
|
Cordelia - I'LL TAKE IT!!!! Sounds wonderrful!

I'll take a picture then and post it. I might even take pictures of all of them and you can pick the one you want.
I originally made these for another butterfly quilt like the one I showed off before ... But, it became a UFO and I won't be going back to it. I've decided that I"m going to frame some of the blocks in a matted frame and hang on the wall and some others are going to become kitchen decorative hot pads -- not intended to be used as hot pads, just intended to be left on the counter top. I'm going to try to sell them at the craft show I'm going to in July. They're blocks like these. You can see them close up if you download. |
Cordelia those are beautiful!
|
Cordelia, the butterfly blocks are so pretty. Annmarie will love her block from you.
|
Cordelia,
Those are beautiful. Almost wish I had picked a butterfly also. Annmarie will love her block!!!!!!! |
Thanks. Back when my mom first showed me how to sew, she had me doing a bunch of embroidery things on her machine (since I didn't have any fabric and she didn't want me using up all hers) and she gave me a bunch of her scraps and showed me how to crazy patch the blocks.
When I finished the blocks, I actually went out and chose that blue border/sashing to finish it. But, that was a teaching project that my mom supplied me with to get me working on the sewing machines. I can't believe she let me sit there with that fancy embroidery machine and make all those blocks. She wouldn't let me do it unless she was supervising. And I gave that to a colleague who retired and moved out of state as a housewarming gift for her new home. I had decided to make another one, but changed my mind and now I'm going to do other things with the blocks. |
the fabrics are just great, great, I love them.

AnnMarie's butterfly block |
That is so pretty quiltwoman - so different. Is it pieced or embroidery, or hand-sewn?
|
Hmmmm. weeeeelllll....it's sort of a trial and error thing... I guess you'd call it reverse applique??? I had the yellow hand-dyed fabric so I made an "overlay in black" of the butterfly.
All of it is done by machine--trust me, I am NOT that patient! Julie |
Wow Julie that is a great looking butterfly!!!!!!
If you ladies make all your blocks now what are you goingto do for the next few months???? |
Cordelia & Quiltwoman the butterfly blocks are wonderful.
Jo |
Bebe, since I am still technically laid up from my total knee surgery - can't drive, walk long distances, pretty much confined to home, I have not much to do, so I have been sewing. When I get all the blocks done, I will have to finish projects I have started - LOL. This is much more fun.
Have quiltwoman's Bear Tracks done - will post tomorrow. I like the pink and black together. |
Bebe,
Once school resumes, I'll be back at work full-time (nights at the hospital) and I'll have to sleep during the day. Trust me, nothing will get done at my house. It's now or never... Beachlady, can't wait to see the pix! Til tomorrow, Julie |

|
Wow, some more great blocks! I haven't made any more since the butterfly..I have the dolll swap to do in the next few days. That one is fun too. I have to wash some more fabric for the rest of the blocks..its all picked out..just have to do laundry
|
I absolutely love this!!!!! beautifull colars!!!!!
|
What beautiful material!
|
Thanks Loretta. It's one of those I just HAD to buy because someday, I might need it.
Dazzle, your block is beautiful! I went to quilt store this morning. I got the rest of my fabrics for the blocks and found a great stripe for my "stinker" commissioned quilt. I"m hoping this will make it more bearable to finish and not look so......ugly. Just need to finish washing/pressing and I really should clean up in my sewing room. I had to get a new pump for my tiny pond in the garden. I hate the thought of mucking it all out. Anyone want to come and help me?? Julie |
quiltwoman, I would be happy to come help you, but I do have an awful summer head cold..so sorry. I guess I'll just have to hole up inside out of the heat and work on some quilt blocks  I will be thinking of you though
|
Don't think I would be of much help today Julie. Don't envy you the job. Knee swollen more than usual with our wet, foggy weather. Good sleeping day!!!
|
Cordelia - Every one of those blocks is a beauty so you can pick the one you want to bless me with!!!
|
Quiltwoman - I love your butterfly block! What a creative mind you have!

Bear Tracks for Quiltwoman. Julie, hope you like it. Block corrected.
. |
It's beautiful Beachlady! Thank you so much.
AnnMarie, glad you like it. Can't wait to see what you do w/ all those beautiful butterflies. |
Beachlady that is very nice!
|
I love those colors beachlady
|
Cordelia - the Bambury Cross pattern is 2 colors - light & dark. When you say black background, is the background the light color or the dark color in the pattern or maybe just the 4 corners? It would make quite a difference & i want you to like it!
|
Good question annmarie. Also, Cordelia, do you want it a 15 in block, or 12 1/2?
