As promised ... pictures including close up's of the Best in Show.

Like "Silver lining" that I posted earlier, this quilt is just as amazing for it's color and piecework as "Silver" is for it's machine work.

Entered in the category of "Large Wall Quilts - home sewing machine" is "Paisley Peacock" by Pat Holly of Ann Arbor MI. This quilt measures 60 x 72 proving it doesn't have to be big to be Grand.

Note about this quilt. Look at the close up's carefully. This quilt is pieced entirely from solids, not a single print. Everywhere you see detail is applique or embroidered. Some of the smaller pieces are mere dots of fabric.

Border. Take a close look at the little peacocks. thos are entirely pieced.

The binding - sorry a tad blurry.

Another pic of the border showing inside borders.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Can you explain a bit more detail about the binding? What was it? Lace? Hand crocheted? I can't make it out.

Bobbielinks 05-01-2011 06:16 AM

I can only "guess" that it is a lace like trim treatment, but heavy stuff like you would find on heavy drapery. She used a few other trims just the inside of the binding, and around one or two of the borders.

I'm only guessing mind you as there was no "write up" on any of the quilts. Perhaps we'll find out in the next issue of the AQS magazine.

So you think she just went into Joann's and bought a few yards of trim and used a coupon?

JK. ;-)

For those that don't know, Pat Holly is the sister of Sue Nickels, also an award winning quilter.

They are "famous" for their Beatles and Space quilts, both of which also won top honors at Paducah (and/or Houston - I can't remember).

You can see those masterpieces in the gallery on Sue's site here:

The detailing on the all these quilts is amazing.

jitkaau 05-02-2011 04:15 AM

I think the lass who did the quilt was featured on the Quilt Show - if it is the same person, she lives in Santiago, Chile.
