Pattern

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Does anyone recognize this pattern? I really love this, and would like to try it, but am not advanced enough to be able to make my own pattern. Thanks.
Kathy

I'm sorry I can't help you, but you will be getting answers soon from those who do a lot of quilting. It sure is pretty.

DianneK 02-25-2012 08:56 AM

I would draft it for you in EQ, if you tell me what size blocks you want...no charge, just for the fun! PM me

pastimesquiltdesign 02-25-2012 09:04 AM

Very pretty design and fabrics. If you look at each component of the pattern it is really a very simple one.
I'll bet you could graph it out. Peggy

dogsgod 02-25-2012 09:06 AM

Main block looks sort of like a modified Ohio star. I bet it's not as hard as you think, go for it! You'll never know unless you try.

yngldy 02-25-2012 12:50 PM

Maybe Pam Bono? Have seen the quilt before in one of my magazines/books. Looks easy to make without a pattern. The roses are snowball type squares, the "star" is 9 patch with square in square in the middle, the corners have opposite corner triangles sewn on (can't remember the name of the technique, getting senile) and the middle outside has corner triangles sewn on opposite top edges. Just have to make sure that the triangles for the snowball are equivalent to the 9 patch square so that they are the same size when sewn next to each other, same with the corner triangles sewn within the 9 patch so that the white star points match up to the dark green corners. Hope I explained that correctly! Good luck, and will still look for pattern.

! Love this!

Yarn or Fabric 02-25-2012 02:09 PM

My first thought was a Pam Bono quilt. I know I have seen that before though and I'm really leaning towards Pam for some reason.

I just checked one of her books that I have and it wasn't in it. I couldn't find the other one I have... sorry :'(

fxsts93kf 02-25-2012 02:32 PM

I had to chuckle when I saw the picture. I just copied that picture for my file sometime in the last day or so but they didn't give a pattern name. It's gorgeous! I'll be watching to see if anyone has an answer.

nativetexan 02-25-2012 03:02 PM

well the green corners one is a snowball block. the other would be easy enough to make up without a pattern but would take some thinking of measurements. EQ help would be great if you want it.

yngldy 02-25-2012 03:44 PM

Knew I had seen it recently! McCall's Quilting, December 2006, Prairie Star Promise. (pg 10) Designer Jan Douglas Blocks finish 12x12

Jackie Spencer 02-25-2012 04:13 PM

I saw a picture of this on the board yesterday and put it in my favorites. It is a beautiful quilt.

TacoMama 02-25-2012 04:24 PM

I love the colors. Glad someone found the pattern.

ckcowl 02-25-2012 04:36 PM

grab yourself a couple sheets of graph paper and a pencil---it really is an easy pattern--one block is a simple snowball block the other is a modified 9-patch with pretty simple components- you do not have to be very experienced to sketch it out on graph paper & make these 2 blocks- then put them together- just break it down= the graph paper makes it easy.

Yarn or Fabric 02-25-2012 05:27 PM

Man, I was way off! I'm glad you found it for her :)

I think it is a Pam Bono also

katigirl 02-26-2012 01:08 AM

I don't know what it is but it's sure a pretty design and beautiful colors.

JusticeClan 02-26-2012 05:34 AM

I'd love to make this for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday. I'll be watching for an answer too.

donna873 02-26-2012 05:38 AM

I love this pattern, if you do do the pattern in eq, I would sure like to have it as well. beautiful!

sustraley 02-26-2012 05:40 AM

That is a gorgeous quilt. I would like to get that pattern too.

Dizzy Dolly 02-26-2012 06:38 AM

It's wonderful someone found the pattern and where it is and the pattern is just beautiful, but I didn't start quilt magazines back that far so how can you get the pattern? thanks for any help

Ariannaquilts 02-26-2012 07:32 AM

Most magazines still offer the older ones. you can usually check on their website for old issues easy to purchase.

ksmiley 02-26-2012 08:12 AM

Hi everyone,

thanks to all of you for looking and your comments about this pattern. I don't get the McCall's quilting magazine, however my best friend might have it and she is going thru her collection today to see if she can find it. Now to show you how "green" I am about the quilting terms-----people have mentioned "EQ" and I don't know what that is. Can someone explain that to me? Also another forum member has offered to graph it out for me, and I responded to her and hopefully she is able to do that for me which is great. Everyone is so gracious on this board and very helpful and I appreciate it very much.
Kathy

That sure is a pretty pattern. Hope you get answers.

Kitsie 02-27-2012 12:23 PM

Would this work?
For a 12” finished blocks I see:

a 12 ½” floral square with 4 ½” green flip & fold corners. (Some are fussy cut)

(4) “tall” Flying Geese: Red – (4) 5 Ό” x 4 ½” rectangle
Floral – (8) 2 7/8” flip & fold corners

(4) Small corner squares & (1) center square:
Floral – 4 ½”
Green or Red – 2 ½” flip & fold corners

Its just a really attractive and "fresh" pattern! Please let me know if I'm wrong for my math!

Kitsie 02-27-2012 02:04 PM

Here is a link I found!!!
http://www.countryregister.com/publi...CRF-M10web.pdf

2nd or 3rd page down on the left.
It was for a raffle. I looked everywhere for the back issue of McCalls, but could not find it. I like the look of the border. My DC has decided she wants this one for her son and wife. If anyone does have the magazine I'd be happy to buy it!!

ksmiley 02-28-2012 05:57 AM

Hi everyone----
My friend looked in her library, and she does not have the magazine. So then I was able to contact Jan Douglas----and she emailed me back. She said that she modified the original pattern slightly, and she now has it available on her web site, it is now called "Midnight Garden". If you google "Jan Douglas quilt patterns" you should be able to find it. She has several very pretty patterns there for sale. But I am still hoping that I will be able to get a pattern for the original one. Thank you Kitsie, I am going to try that, and am still waiting for one of the other members to email me back----she was going to try and use EQ and graph it for me. If she emails me with the pattern, I will post here, and then anyone who wants the pattern I will be happy to PM them and send it out. Thanks again to everyone.
Kathy

I thought the same thing, I will check her site.

Why don't you just order the 'Midnight garden' from Jan Douglas? I am sure her pattern now isn't far off the one that was in McCall's.

You are right, of course, but I didn't like all the borders. Silly of me because we don't know what border is on the McCalls version. I have even drawn it up the design, but I'd just like the magazine. I like the one offered as a raffle prize.

cleodaisy 03-01-2012 12:15 PM

This beautiful quilt knocked me over when I first saw its picture from a quilt show. It is really gorgeous. I saved a picture and figured that I could graph out the blocks. Maybe I will look for the Midnight Garden pattern.

I can try e-mailing it to you or if that doesn't work, I'll mail it. I'll let you know first.

Enjoy!

This quilt was featured in McCalls Quilting Magazine December 2006. Sometimes you can contact the magazine and they will send you the back issue. Good luck. I have the issue as it is my plan to make this quilt someday. I have had it open to this page for quite some time, but other quilts keep cropping up. LOL

EvelynJ 03-20-2012 06:04 PM

Wish I could help, Kathy, I've never seen this pattern. I'd love to get a copy if there is a pattern somewhere. It's a beautiful design.
