Love your fabric choices and the block looks great. Okay, it may not as perfect as you want, but it still looks very nicely put together. Who is going to get that close and examine every point other than yourself? Give yourself a break and just enjoy the process, isn't that why most of us quilt? It will be a beautiful quilt and I am sure you will love it. Enjoy.

I see a little bitty bit of difference in the two top corners. I can't help because mine are coming out wonky too. Even tho I spray starch the material B/4 I cut my squares, press after each cut/seam/etc. I still get variations. From what I'm reading it seems that there's no such thing as a perfect pinwheel.
Sorry girl I do not see any mistakes like I do in mine. In fact they match up nicely. The colors are good too..
Ha ha ha! If that were mine I would call it perfect and go on. My pinwheels never look that good. Even with the close up, I'm not sure what problem you're referring to.
Oh, my, you need to relax a little and enjoy the trip. It looks just fine.

QM sorry I do not understand what your trying to explain to me. I am by far not a perfectionist...but I would like to be close. ha ha ha It is just everyones quilts on here look so awesome..and I would love mine to be the same way. |
Looks good to me.
I think you worry to much.
Looks fine to me. I think when it is all put together whatever you see won't be noticed. As one of my students one time said about her mistakes "it won't be noticed on a galloping horse". Like your colors too.
Your work looks nice to me. The points are about as close as they can be. Keep going.
I don't want to have to buy new glasses either. Your close-up reveals that the left lower half square is 1/8" or less away from the center of the pinwheel.
This is not a do-over. If you had cut off the point of that unit, then I would agree with a little seam ripping, but you are being too hard on yourself. Is this a quilt that you are submitting for a prize?? -congratulations on a good pinwheel block - Judy |
What's wrong with it? I think it looks great!
I use starch on bias pieces it will help
I hope mine look as good
In my class I learned to pin either side of the intersection before sewing....not pinning across the intersection. If the corners aren't spot on, then I take out a few stitches on each side after figuring which area was off and pin again before sewing that area. Another thing to consider: The edge of you blocks should not be trimmed, there should be a 1/4" border for joining so you do not lose the points.
I think it's fine. I could live with that (and have lived with things MUCH worse than that!)
Oh my how good are you!!!!
Geez, I hope you are going to read these responses...honey just walk away for now. I have to say if my stuff came that close I would be thrilled! You are being WAY too hard on yourself!
When I do that square I press the seams open which seems to help for me!! However, I don't see a thing wrong with yours - beautiful work and don't be so hard on yourself!!
It looks GREAT!!!!! Stop messing with it and once you make more to go with it, it will look better to you and you will never know which block it is.
Looks good to me

You could be pulling just a little on your bias edge, be sure to feed those carefully under the presser foot. But, just square it up, its plenty good enough
You're right, the one on the top left is the worst. When you square them up to 5 inches, is the diagonal seam exactly on the diagonal line of your square up ruler? That has to be exactly on the diagonal line when you square it up. Even if you cut them to 5 inch squares, that diagonal HAS to be on the exact diagonal line of the ruler.
I have been there!! Can you tell? That is your critical part that makes them all meet in the middle like they are supposed to. You can not adjust it as you sew the squares together because of that diagonal seam. |
Sounds like you are getting plenty of practice making pinwheels. You are getting better all the time. That's Quilting.

Looks good to me

When you are pinning to combine your subunits, make sure the seam allowance that is on top 'faces' the machine needle. Another way to say it is that the needle comes to the seam allowance before the previous seams. If you want to have the seam allowance the other way because you will end up with dark under light, clip that previous seam allowance close to the new seam. Doing it this way is no harder, but it looks much more impressive when the points meet exactly. If this is not a clear statement, let me know and I'll post pix. I figured this one out for myself then saw it on Simply Quilts, back in the day. The reason is that once the seam allowance is locked in place with a stitch, the pressure foot can't push the upper seam allowance away from the lower one. |
Looks good enough to me too. No one is going to be critical of that, just enjoy!
I can't see anything wrong... Looks great to me too.
I believe you think it would look better to have the two colors reversed, To make the pinwheel the darker fabric. Looks good to me.
Yeah, me too

I agree with most, it looks fine. I also understand your need for perfection - I also did three practice ones and the third finally worked. What I did was exactly what you are doing, but when you sew the two halves together, place a pin at the point of one, then at the poing of the other and match up that way - worked for me and now every one I make has all the points matched up perfectly.
Perfect pinwheels!

Looks absolutely great. Quit trying so hard. You'll make a chore out of a pleasure. Quilting is for fun, not to be a stress test!
