I've had a couple of pm's about this, so thought I'd post a couple of pictures-mostly I give them away as gifts, so I never have many around. . .but here's what I have on hand this morning: (I love using antlers for handles if I can get them)

pudding stone from Drummond Island, MI as base

OMG They are beautiful!! I LOVE the rustic look!! Did you take a class or have a book on how to do them?

frauhahn 03-13-2011 08:56 AM

Took a one day class-was a dismal failure-just needed a lot of practice!!!

Ramona Byrd 03-13-2011 08:57 AM

Lovely work. I've tried it with the very long needles from trees in Yosemite Valley, took a long time to finish, but wasn't as nice as yours. You did a very good job on this, the deer anthers were a nice touch I've never seen before. I have seen some with reddish polished Buck Brush handles from the high Sierras, but those were Indian made.

littlehud 03-13-2011 09:01 AM

Those are beautiful. Great work. The handles are wonderful.

I love them. I took a class on chair caning once. Didn't really like it. Is this similar?

I love these! Clever use of natural resources that would otherwise be thrown away.

Kooklabell 03-13-2011 10:32 AM

Hi,

Your baskets are amazing. Where did you take the class? What do you use to weave the needles? I may have some deer antlers for you. My husband uses them to turn pens. The small ones don't work for him.

raedar63 03-13-2011 12:06 PM

Pm me if you are interested in selling with price info!!!!

jdiane318 03-13-2011 12:12 PM

Nice and rustic, love the look. I couldn't make myself use one except for decoration. The horn handles are just so neat looking.

brenda21 03-13-2011 12:25 PM

They are stunning!! PM me as well if you sell them, with pricing info.

mcdaniel023 03-13-2011 12:28 PM

cheryl rearick 03-13-2011 12:32 PM

again I agree with all those are extremely beautiful. The beauty is no two will ever be the same. Nice job.

frauhahn 03-13-2011 01:22 PM

Hi! The pine needles come from Florida or North Carolina (Georgia, too, I hear). Since my sister no longer lives in NC, these came from Florida via ebay! They are fairly reasonable- a couple of pounds make a lot of baskets.
Thanks for asking!
Linda

I have always admired pine needle baskets for the intricate work. Yours are exceptional with the stone base and the antler handles. Wonderful!

boohoofish 03-13-2011 03:31 PM

I have made a few and know just how much work is involved. Yours are truly spectacular, especially with the addition of the antlers for handles. Keep up the good work!!

Wonderful work.....and glad to see someone else knows what a "pudding stone" is....I have found them in Atlanta, Michigan.....also know the time involved working with pine needles...Native American friend who also worked with quills, birch bark and sweet-grass.....Simply amazing what can be made from natures leftovers.

barb12makeitsew 03-14-2011 04:10 AM

Beautiful. You do great work!

Yooper32 03-14-2011 04:13 AM

Oh, my word, those are super fabulous. Beautiful job on the weaving and using horn handles, WOW! They look museum quality to me.

PATTIESPEARL 03-14-2011 04:42 AM

awesome! I have a friend who made me a set of angels to hang on the wall out of pine needles. both of you have a wonderful skill.

lass 03-14-2011 04:54 AM

Wow. Just lovely. Be sure to keep some for yourself.

Stacey 03-14-2011 04:59 AM

These are beautiful. I love pine needle baskets and am in awe of people that make them. I weave baskets from grapevines. Much bigger materials and I would imagine faster to create.
