Pine Tree Lap Quilt
2 Attachment(s)
I started this quilt some 20 so years ago and put it away because I didn't like something about it. I got it out earlier this year determined to fix and quilt it. Well, now I finally got it quilted and have about 10 inches of the hand work of the binding left to sew.
Now this was when I was still learning to quilt, so the trees are all hand pieced! The templates were drawn onto the back of the fabric and you carefully eye-balled the quarter inch seams as you cut them out. Then they were sewn together to make the blocks. It was an all day thing to make one for me. That was before rotary cutters and machine sewing. Anyway I mention this because I quilted this so heavily because of my fear for the hand piecing coming apart. Not that it is, I just want it to last. I was talking my to my son on the phone the other day and asked him his favorite colors. I was shocked when he quoted all these colors! What a stroke of luck! So here it is, almost finished for him. Finally! A UFO no more. |
That is really nice !!
By the way it is fmq end to end with the darker beige color. I wish it was a better picture so you could see that.
I love tree quilts! Beautiful.
I LOVE IT!!! That is just wonderful!
Thanks so much! I like it too now that it is all finished. It was touch and go there for a awhile.

beautiful and cozy
very nice quilt... I love trees
Love how that went together. Good colors
Wonderful quilt -- it deserved to be finished. As often mentioned on these pages, sometimes quilts need to "rest" (or their creators do!) before completion. It's time had arrived. The play of white and beige is outstanding -- to me, looks like shadows created by trees!
Beautiful quilt, I know your son will love it!!

Very nice and quite masculine for your son. It would be perfect in a cabin.
I can't see anything not to like about this quilt. Love it.
Very pretty quilt!
I really like the pattern and your work. Do you know it if is still available or in a book? Or do you know the exact name of the pattern you started with. I know 20 year is a long time. I live in in pine tree country so an interesting pine tree variation is always welcome.
I think it's really pretty! He'll love it... love the trees
I especially like the random tan/brown pieces. It makes it look like a walk on paths through the woods. It's lovely.
that is very pretty.love the woodsy feel it has.
That's a great quilt! I will have to remember that one!
I really like those trees and I just realized that they are smaller on the bottom. Aren't they usually made smaller on top? I really like this way.
Oh dear judy ... I am thinking it is like a photographer's view while flying low over a forest. If you look at the first pic that is somewhat further away, your can get that feeling.
This pattern was on the front of keepsake quilting catalog at the time I wanted to make a fall quilt. I just drafted the pattern from the picture, made the templates, and went for it. I love trees and they have always been the first thing I place into my landscaping. I love gardening and landscaping a home. It is so creative! |
Really like your quilt! Gorgeous!
Glad you finished it. It is very nice and it would have been a sad thing to have it just sit in a drawer.
Very pretty...
