I finished the top to my disappearing 9 patch quilt. Our quilt guild traded pink blocks. Everyone used the same fabric of brown for the centers. Some put the blocks back together with the same fabric, but I liked the "scrappy" look. I put mine on point with sashing. I really like how it turned out. Hope you all do!

Like the sashing. It really adds to the look of the quilt.

Very Pretty!

I love it! Pink and brown go so nicely together. The scrappy look is especially neat. Great job!

I'm working on one of those and I had started sewing the pieces into one big top but I think I like your idea of making squares and using sashing....

so think I'll rip out what I've got done - very little, thankfully - and swipe your idea!!

Thanks for posting this before I got more done  :D

mary quite contrary 11-10-2008 12:13 PM

I'm working on a disappearing 9-patch right now. I hadn't thought of putting the blocks on point. Love your quilt. Thanks for giving me more ideas since I plan to do a couple more disappearing 9-patches.

Craftybug 11-10-2008 04:43 PM

I love it Susan, the color combination is fantastic.

Law101 11-10-2008 04:48 PM

I usually don't like scrappy quilts but yours looks great. Maybe the pattern I picked for the one I am almost done with is why I don't like it.

Renee 11-10-2008 04:52 PM

It's beautiful!

Susan,

Could you tell us the size of the individual block in the nine patch? Also I would like to know what size this quilt ended up being. It looks nice sized.

I love the look of this disappearing nine patch it is more orderly looking even with it being done scrappy. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Debbie,

The finished blocks are 8 1/2". When I made the 9 patch before cutting it in 4th's, the patches were 3 1/2 inch squares.

With the borders, the total size of the quilt is 54 x 78.

I think it's FAB!

Pam S 11-11-2008 08:03 AM

Very nice. The sashing really ties it together and keeps it from looking "scrappy". Good job.

Susan,
Thank you so much for your dimensions. That is a great twin sized quilt. I just love your colors. Oldest grandaughter would like one in pink and black. I would like brown much better. Oh well gotta love 'em. LOL

Debbie

Susan that is a great quilt! I love that it has just the touches of pink. What pattern did you use for this one?

Debbie

Hi Debbie,

It is a square within a square block. It's hard to believe how it turns out, it is just the way you turn the block. Here is a picture of the block diagram

That is so nice! What a great group effort too. I still don't get why it is called the Disappearing Nine Patch. I have seen the instructions, but I know years from now, I just won't be able to come up with that name!
