Pinwheels - WIP

I'm making this for my DD (on her request). She saw it somewhere online, sent me a photo and I tried to copy it as best as I could. I hope I'm not infringing on someone's personal design, but it's what she wanted. I just got it up on the wall tonight and was so surprised to see it come together so well. I think I'll leave it for a couple of days and decide whether anything needs to be turned. I like the layout, so I'm not changing that. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Any comments or constructive criticism or advice is always welcome. Cheers! :)

This is an old pattern, so don't feel upset about it. You have done a lovely job with it. Will you be trying out different sashings and borders? If it were mine, I think I would use white sashing with small blue and/or green cornerstones, the deep red for a narrow inner border and a lively print for the border, like Hoffman's Chicken Salad.

I'm not sure I'm going to sash it, I'm thinking of just joining the squares. I like your idea for the inner & outer borders, but I can't do chickens ... that's an old joke between my DD & me ... she'd probably have a cow! LOL. I'm going to start searching for an outer border & a backing. I might join 5" strips of all the other colors for the outer border & use the reds as the inner. :-)

OKLAHOMA PEACH 02-16-2012 07:21 AM

No, I planned it out carefully on a chart before I started. There were sew many fabrics in sew many colors that I was afraid I'd get lost if it wasn't planned. :-)

You are very talented - it's gorgeous!

For others that love this block (like I do), but could never draft their own, Eleanor Burns offers it as a free pattern download called Merry-Go-Round. Scroll down on the right at this site:
