Recently I told her I had played the accordion for 55 years and it still soothes my soul. My dad, who passed away in 1994 from cancer, absolutely loved to listen to me play - particularly Amazing Grace. He would have been 85 on Feb. 8th. On that day, I received a letter in the mail from my dear friend (who did not know my dad's birthday, by the way), and inside was a pattern designed by Marureen Erhardt called Accordion Impression. It brought tears to my eyes, and to think it arrived on my dad's birthday was even more special, since that day is always particularly sad for me. It inspired me to get out my real accordion and play his favorites, and I did so for 2 hours straight. A special gift from a special lady. I cannot figure out a name -perhaps Amazing Grace, unless anyone can come up with something truly unique. Here's a photo of the quilt I made up yesterday using stash and a couple of new red fabrics (the accordion and clef are not secured yet - trying out different positions first). Also a photo of my real accordion given to me by my grandparents for my 8th Christmas, and I will never part with it. Thanks for reading my story. |
How about "Dad's Amazing Grace"?

I know how hard it is to lose parents both of mine are gone now. My youngest niece played Amazing Grace on her Violin at my Dad's funeral in 2004, because she always played it for him when she practiced, Daddy lived with her and her dad (my brother) the last four years of of his life. Mother passed away in 1990/ |
What a story of love and friendship. Thank you for sharing it, as well as the beautiful quilt. I might call it, "Memories of Playing for Dad.". I might even add a picture or 2, on one side or the other.
"Notes of Friendship". The quilt is beautiful, so unique. Thank you for sharing such a touching story. It gladdens the heart.
"Daddy's love"
"Pure Love". Both for your father and you acordian.
I, too, think that Amazing Grace is the perfect name for your quilt! And I love it that you play accordion! My DFIL plays accordion too--he is 91 years old, and plays for the "old folks" at a local nursing home. Most of them are younger than he is.

That was a great story and an amazing quilt. When things like that happen in our lives I always think it a way for our loved ones who have passed away showing us they still are watching over us. I like the name someone else wrote " IN Sweet Accord"
I like....According to Dad
A real heart warming story and a lovely quilt
Beautiful work! I would come up with a name that incorporates both names of your Dad and your friend, or at least of your Dad
Whatever u do name the quilt, your "dad" will b happy for sure of your accomplishment...
yeah ...my first reply with my signature and it worked...the only thing is I made it purple and the color did not change, can anyone help me with that....thks to all for helping me so much with everything.......
Absolutely beautiful wallhanging! I agree with the suggestion for Musical Memories.
How about the "Sweet Notes of Friendship"? You did fantastic work on this...I am in awe of your talent...
I would call it "Heart Songs"
Just another suggestion to really confuse your decision about a title for your quilt... "Accordian" To Me... What a beautiful job and such a sweet memory of your father! Great to see and hear the sentiment involved in your quilting.

Yep... "In Sweet Accord" is better than "Accordian" To me... I love that title - it's a perfect sentiment
 |
I agree with Julianna. Beautiful quilt. I played the accordian for a couple of years when I was in high school. Then only played it when I was pregnant, why I don't know. I was playing it one day, to show my 4 kids that I could play, and my husband came home from work and thought that I had an announcement to make. lol We all had a great laugh as I was not pregnant. None of my 4 kids ever played it either.

What a touching story. I am glad to hear you picked it up again and played, sometimes that's the hardest part when it's someone so dear to the heart. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and don't quit playing. |
