Hello,
I met a lovely, caring, and giving woman on this board, and we have been personally emailing back and forth since around September, 2010. We live in different states, and have never met in person, but I feel as if she is as dear a friend as anyone I have known for years. Recently I told her I had played the accordion for 55 years and it still soothes my soul. My dad, who passed away in 1994 from cancer, absolutely loved to listen to me play - particularly Amazing Grace. He would have been 85 on Feb. 8th. On that day, I received a letter in the mail from my dear friend (who did not know my dad's birthday, by the way), and inside was a pattern designed by Marureen Erhardt called Accordion Impression. It brought tears to my eyes, and to think it arrived on my dad's birthday was even more special, since that day is always particularly sad for me. It inspired me to get out my real accordion and play his favorites, and I did so for 2 hours straight. A special gift from a special lady. I cannot figure out a name -perhaps Amazing Grace, unless anyone can come up with something truly unique. Here's a photo of the quilt I made up yesterday using stash and a couple of new red fabrics (the accordion and clef are not secured yet - trying out different positions first). Also a photo of my real accordion given to me by my grandparents for my 8th Christmas, and I will never part with it. Thanks for reading my story. How about "Melodies of Love". And you did a beautiful job.
|
Thank you so much for sharing your story. It reminds me of my grandpa who played the accordian too. (It had buttons on both sides).
Amazing Grace! That would be the title I would choose for the wallhanging. Which name could be better? |
Wow what a story. That is so beautiful to have friends who care so much and you never even met I am new to this board and i am already making friends and i love it.
As for your quilt i am not really good at this but something to include the memory of your dad with Amazing Grace would be nice. |
Catalina...Named for your instrument :)
|
How about:
Sweet harmony? Perfect harmony? Something along the lines of harmony? Lori |
That is an Amazing friendship, an Amazing story and Amazing Grace would be a perfect name for the quilt.
|
I don;t know about a name, but that is amazing. And what a great story.
|
"Amazing Love"
|
What a great story, and wonderful friend. "Perfect Harmony" would be a great name.

title -Heart and Soul... your heart, and soul belongs to memories of music.. I learned how to play the song, Heart and Soul , as a little girl on a small piano.. It is the only song I remember, but it is a song that remains special to me.. Much as I think your accordian remains special to you. Beautiful quilt..and beautiful memories for you..

My Dad played accordion - and I love it!

Beautiful story & what a wonderful person your "email" friend is. I'm very partial to Amazing Grace, that would be my choice.

Thanks so much for sharing your story and your wallhanging. It is going to be beautiful. I would choose Amazing Grace, but someone else may come up with one you will want to use.
Your Dad was like my Dad, he loved to hear accordion music and Amazing Grace and An Uncloudy Day were his favorites. He passed away in 1973 and I lost my Mom in 2009. She loved gospel music so much. She lived by herself and would play the cassettes we bought her. She had a collection of them. We would ask her why she didn't listen to them anymore and she would say I will play them tomorrow. We believe she just forgot how to use the player, but didn't want anyone to know. She lost her memory before she passed. Your story of your Dad and how long you have played the accordion and that your grandparents gave it to you was so inspiring. It brought tears of joy to my eyes. The Precious Memories you have of your Dad and the music. What a friend to send you that pattern. There are some great people on here. They have helped me so much since I lost my Mom. |
Music Memories

A beautiful quilt, brings back memories of my granny, she used to play and dance around, I can still see the ornery twinkle in her eye as she played, danced and sang.
|
Simply "Grace"
My hubby is from San Jose! Been there once, beautiful area. |
very nice job... love it
|
I think the name Amazing Grace would have more meaning for you.
|
What a beautiful story and wall hanging. Amazing Grace is the perfect choice.
|
What a great story. I'm sorry for your loss.
How about 'a song for dad' or 'playing for dad'? |
If it were mine I would name it Amazing Grace in honor of your dad and the song he liked to hear you play. Very pretty block.
|
I say Amazing Grace, it's very befitting. That's just my humble opinion!
