Pride and Jealousy

3 Attachment(s)
It is a very strange sensation to be so proud of my child for the awesome job he is doing on his quilt, and at the same time, being soooo jealous of him because his points are SO much nicer than mine !

This is not the first time his perfect points have made me jealous either . The quilt he made last fall is 98% perfect points too ! Last falls quilt was HST, and this is his FIRST time EVER making geese. He is some sort of quilting prodigy or something !

Here are some of his completed strip sets , awaiting the rest of their colors so he can begin putting it all together.

Here he is busy at the machine, now that I have got up from it myself, he was waiting patiently all day for machine time !

I have a feeling he is going to do very well in the fair this year ! This will be his first time entering a quilt at the fair and he is being VERY precise and wanting to make sure he has it done in time. I told him he has lots of time, it does not need to be finished till August !

patski 05-29-2014 08:16 PM

very nice. I love seeing "men" quilting. They have such a different view and its' always really great. He may be an
architect!

MaryMo 05-29-2014 08:24 PM

I would so proud of him. His strength is his points, what is your strength? Is it in teaching him to sew? If so, you did a remarkable job!

BETTY62 05-29-2014 08:25 PM

What an amazing kid. His work is beautiful. Wish I could afford to buy him his very own sewing machine.

Judith1005 05-29-2014 08:36 PM

Amazing. His points are better then mine also. I love the colors he's working with. You might have to think about getting a second machine for him. :)

Keep us posted on how his entry at the fair does. Good Luck.

He has his own LOL, He just prefers to use my Brother PQ1500 LOL it has more room !

kathdavis 05-29-2014 08:46 PM

Wow! I'm jealous.

AngeliaNR 05-29-2014 09:16 PM

Great work. It is so nice to see kids quilting.

John Alexander 05-29-2014 09:20 PM

wow,this quilt is brilliant.
JOHN

beaglelady 05-29-2014 09:25 PM

He is doing an amazing job! How old is he?

SlightlyOffQuilter 05-29-2014 09:26 PM

He will be 15 in July. My grandmother taught him to sew on her machine when he was 5 ! He made his first small quilt at 13, and has made pouches and last year he made his own pajama pants !

Doggramma 05-29-2014 10:30 PM

Fabulous job! How great to have a child that quilts.

bookworm22 05-29-2014 11:33 PM

Wow - canīt wait to see the finished quilt. He is doing a great job !! You must be very very proud.

Heather Hayllar 05-30-2014 01:46 AM

He is very very good, I am jealous too! But maybe a nice Christmas sewing machine is deserved?

ckcowl 05-30-2014 02:31 AM

I have found the 'guys' in my world who decided to give quilting a try (2 sons and a nephew) are all fabulous at it! they are very precise, their color sense is beyond compare and they are fearless. so creative! and guys are not afraid of color at all- we could all take some lessons from them. when ever I decide to start a new bargello quilt I always choose the color family I want to use- then turn over stacks of fabric choices to one of the guys to decide what I can/should use- and in what order. it was my nephew who was working on appliqued critters one time- he showed me his latest 'critter' and I said- really cute, jess, but this fabric is (wrong side up)...he looked at me as if I had come from a different planet & said- I pay for both sides of the fabric I buy; I liked this side better. lessoned learned- I have now used both sides of fabrics (besides batiks) when the lighter/duller side was a better choice- after all- paid for both sides. the guys also challenge me and push me outside my comfort box. it is always wonderful to see a young man encouraged to take up quilting. :)

QuiltnNan 05-30-2014 02:44 AM

such a great job! oddly, this looks just like my grandson if he were at the machine. good luck to him at the fair.

twinkie 05-30-2014 02:45 AM

I would be jealous also, but aren't you soooooo proud.

Narda H. 05-30-2014 03:00 AM

You have taught him well. You are so very fortunate to have a quilting buddy! I have 6 kids and 9 grandkids and not even one is interested in being a sew-er. They love the quilts just not the focus it takes. My youngest daughter is the only one who will do small projects. Am I a mean tutor? No. Do I smell bad? No. They don't have the bug I guess:]

Soozie 05-30-2014 04:14 AM

Look out, Ricky Timms!:D

#1piecemaker 05-30-2014 04:41 AM

He will win a ribbon for sure. Be sure to let us know how he does.

bjiwami 05-30-2014 05:48 AM

I'm very proud of him and he's not even my child!

Lori S 05-30-2014 05:53 AM

Thank -you for sharing these photos, and I hope he does well at the fair. Your comment about pride and jealousy struck a cord with me. My mom taught me to sew and I was not a willing student. Now years latter I can see in her eyes and emotions their is the same pride and jealousy of which you speak. When ever anyone comments on my quilting I always give credit to my Mom. Had she not taught me ... I would not be a quilter/sewer today. My skills came from her. It will always be on the top of my list of most cherished gifts she passed on to me. Be proud !

tessagin 05-30-2014 06:06 AM

I can see it now when the looks of jealousy show up on the young ladies who place after he wins the top ribbon. LOL! Be proud...Be very proud. My DH helped me start my sewing again. He used to help his sisters with their home ec classes. His mother taught him the basics and he went from there.

lfstamper 05-30-2014 06:09 AM

He has a great teacher! Good luck in the fair...keep us posted.

hairquilt 05-30-2014 06:58 AM

Wow-his piecing skills are way better than mine! Hope he doesn't lose focus when the girls come along!! Good job of teaching!!

northern lass 05-30-2014 09:23 AM

Absolutely brilliant work! Puts me to shame. He has had a very gifted teacher in his mum! Well done both of you.

RedGarnet222 05-30-2014 09:38 AM

How neat! I love that he seems so intense with his work. I see a gift sewing machine in his future. LOL...

Msnappy 05-30-2014 09:44 AM

His points are beautiful, but you have given him the passion to do well and the love of quilting.

SlightlyOffQuilter 05-30-2014 09:57 AM

He has his own Janome machine LOL, we got it for him last year for Christmas but he prefers to use either my Brother PQ1500 or the vintage Singer ! " My machine has too many buttons on it , I get confused " is what I am told LOL . Since we don't have the space for another machine I have learned to share !

gabeway 05-30-2014 10:23 AM

Won't be long before he is designing his own quilts!

Jeanne S 05-30-2014 11:13 AM

What a great job!! He should be very proud of himself. Love to see guys getting the sewing bug!

Dolphyngyrl 05-30-2014 12:10 PM

wow, very talented guy, you must be so proud, don't be too jealous because you helped mold this young man into to who he is, and that is why he is so good.

ube quilting 05-30-2014 01:16 PM

DS is doing a terrific job on his FG. Good luck at the fair and keep us posted on the progress. It is wonderful to see young people interested in quilting. Starting at this young age, just imagine how far he can go.:D Grow your passion!
peace

Time to buy this prodigy his own machine! Seriously, only you know if you can or not, but he is obviously great at this! Good on you for teaching him, encouraging him, and being justifiably proud of him!

Obviously I wrote that before I read all the other posts. :)

wantanaquilt 05-30-2014 01:35 PM

He is so great, he made be a designer in clothes time he could teach me a thing or too.

quiltstringz 05-30-2014 01:38 PM

Well I am jealous too! Be sure to let him know that we all LOVE his quilt so far and can't wait to see it finished.

QUILTNMO 05-30-2014 01:44 PM

that is our future generation very nice!!!

Wanabee Quiltin 05-30-2014 03:12 PM

Some guys do excellent work and apparently this includes your son. My oldest son was very precise in everything he did as a child and grew up to do anything he wanted to do. He did counted cross-stitch pictures, crocheted, sewed. And his oldest son is just like him, very precise. I love the look of the quilt your son is making, please post a picture when it's finished.
