Privileged to see one lady's quilt collection she has made in my home town....this is a small sample of what she has...please pardon my poor pictures that do not do them justice. This will take several uploads to see all I photographed yesterday.

And more she has done; it takes her three days to a week or two to do each quilt top and another week to quilt it.

All stunning! Thank you for sharing!!

This lady is house bound because of health reasons, cannot do much of anything, so she sews...quilts out various fabrics from Upholstery to hospital gowns with each piece 'talking' to her on pattern and colors. I thought she had an 'excellent' eye for color and design. She does not discuss her failing health or her husband's, but tills their days of creating beauty for the eye. Their children do not appreciate any of them and caused them to return the dining room table to its place rather than housing their LA where they could use it more. Therefore, many she showed me were not quilted yet. Nor have any of their children return to eat with them, so I said "Make your house comfortable for you!" I marvel at seniors who can find a reason to wake up each day, and do what they have found joy in doing.

All the photos I took are going into an album for her. Thank you for looking; I will add comments without names into the album.

earthwalker 10-31-2014 07:01 AM

What a lovely collection.....life is too short to move your LA to suit grown offspring (or brats more like).....Tell your friend she is amazing and so is her husband. Better not put this comment in the album.

Ariannaquilts 10-31-2014 07:12 AM

Thanks for sharing these tell her she has a lot of support to bring her long arm machine back to where she wants it. Heck with the kids that don't see the joy it brings their mother.

nunnyJo 10-31-2014 07:18 AM

great show, i vote for the green batik. Thx for sharing

Grandma Bonnie 10-31-2014 07:21 AM

Wonderful quilts & bless this lady for doing what she wants to do. Too bad about the long arm machine - it should go right back in place of the dining table! She's wonderful!

Hulalulu 10-31-2014 08:34 AM

What a wonderful gift the quilter has -- a perfect balance of seriousness and lightness -- patriotism and fantasy -- those butterflies! It's a real shame that as we age our offspring revert to their teenage years : they "know it all" once again, and do not see our needs to continue to be recognized as the creative and functioning people we have been for so very long! Just because we are older, doesn't mean someone else needs to make decisions for us! Thanks for posting these -- if they have internet, it would be wonderful for them to realize how much we are all enjoying this body of work.

KwiltyKahy 10-31-2014 08:39 AM

Very well said. She is a busy lady and should be able to do what SHE likes.

No internet connection which is a shame. But his eye sight is getting worse...do not know details. I met them for the first time yesterday. Reportedly, they have some 700 quilts and quilt tops done in their home. She took her old machine in for service and the repair guy stole it and replaced it with another one...and it did not work very long for her, so they saved and bought another machine. And their kids....they return for $$$$ and to criticize their 'housekeeping' ....e.i., dust everywhere....according to them...I did not see a thing wrong. It was cleaner than mine! I did tell them to live in their house their way, so no one is saying anything different on QB than what I said to them.

I will continue to work with them to document their quilts and tops....and making it into an album for them...as long as my neighbor and their friend....will take me there. Wonderful couple, full of life and fun, and enjoy their good times together...even though she does yell at him from time to time on where to find things, as I yell at my spouse from time to time, they help one another like we do with each other. Their home was comfortable and welcoming, as they are to visiting guests.

bezzie2013 10-31-2014 09:16 AM

what a wonderful show god bless you for showing it to us and i am with you make the house comforable for them not the kids

serenitybygrace 10-31-2014 09:40 AM

Awesome! It is really amazing to find someone who lives to create beauty for others. I pray the Lord blesses them greatly.

cathyvv 10-31-2014 09:51 AM

Her quilts are beautiful!

I agree with you - long arm should be in the dining room; the table is not necessary for their lifestyle.

Sometimes kids are a pain in the patootie...

cathyvv 10-31-2014 09:59 AM

700 quilt tops in their home? With this couples persmission, someone should start selling them on Ebay or donating them to charity so that their children don't trash them when this creative couple has gone to their reward.

I see many beautiful quilts and other home made things in Good Will - it kind of makes me sick to think that family didn't care enough to treasure them, and very sad at the possibility that the creators had no family to treasure them.

I forgot to thank you for visiting them and encouraging them. There's nothing like pleasant company when you can't get out of your home easily.

crafty pat 10-31-2014 10:06 AM

She is so talented, her quilts are beautiful. She should have her long arm where she can use it. If her kids think her house needs cleaning why don't they help her clean it?

QUILTNMO 10-31-2014 11:33 AM

wow they are wonderful thanks for sharing!!

NIICHMOM 10-31-2014 01:02 PM

What a beautiful find for you, Bet they truely enjoyed your visit and they could show their treasures to you, who enjoyed and appreciated their treasures, understood the time that was put into it, and could foresee the pattern & colors. I hope you can the continue to show their quilts as you put their quilts in order for them... And maybe share their stories along with the pic. Thanks and I hope you pass all the positive comments on to them...

mimiof4 10-31-2014 01:19 PM

What a beautiful collection of quilts, she has a fantastic eye for color. Good for her doing what she loves.

MFord 10-31-2014 01:48 PM

What a magnificent collection! She and her DH can be cozy all the time!!

GailG 10-31-2014 02:17 PM

They are blessed for having you show interest and friendship. And you are blessed for having them in your life. I'm with the others -- move that table out and that LA back where it can be used and enjoyed. Beautiful quilts.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-31-2014 05:37 PM

She does not have any training or lessons in quilt making. She handles the fabric, and it 'talks' to her, she matches it up and cuts out the blocks. That might take her from a day to a week or so, then she starts sewing up the quilt. I was truly amazed with her results in the beauty of the quilts, matching up the colors, and designing her quilts. Did not get to see her "God's Eye" and her "Stars over Georgetown Path' looked like the Trip around the world, the first one pictured in this thread. ..then again, it could be her version of it. Need to see it again. Missed the first of the show, because I had forgotten I packed the camera in my purse... with hope and prayers, I will get to visit them again and take more pictures of the quilts..

terri bb 10-31-2014 06:03 PM

my goodness. she is amazing! thank you so much for posting these. this was a treat!

bepositive 10-31-2014 06:04 PM

WOW - BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you for the GORGEOUS quilt show!! :) :) :)

quiltjoey 10-31-2014 07:19 PM

Thank you for sharing the lovely quilts of this lovely lady. I know how children can be. None of my children, GC, nieces, or nephews want any of my stuff. Even my husband is not crazy about it. It would all go to GW or garbage is something happens to me... So sad when I hear of others in the same boat.

red-warrior 10-31-2014 07:20 PM

I enjoyed her quilts and think it is wonderful that she is so productive and creative! I agree with you that the long arm should be where she can use it. Shame on the kids who can not eat elsewhere and have not come to use the
dining room!

zozee 10-31-2014 09:00 PM

She is blessed to have a friend like who values her talent, her hobby and her investment of time. Thanks for being that friend. Her quilts are beautiful. I especially like the wedding ring one, and find her variety inspiring.

just_the_scraps_m'am 10-31-2014 09:38 PM

there are some very intricate quilts there! 700 -- is a lot of work and the love is evident; she is blessed to be so talented but it's a darn shame families act like strangers...

Judyth 11-01-2014 03:11 AM

Tell her that her work is beautiful. Also tell her that she and her husband should do what makes them happy and gives them fulfillment. They have earned that. If there children don't like the quilts, there are many people who would, injured veterans, cancer patients, women in spouse abuse centers, children in orphanages, other shut-ins, patients in nursing homes, etc. God gave them a talent to make these beautiful quilts and they need to share it and continue it as long as their health allows them too. Get the LA out and bring these pieces of art to life. They will be someones treasure some day.

twinkie 11-01-2014 03:30 AM

A lot of work. Very talented. Thanks for letting us visit this show.

Dodie 11-01-2014 04:41 AM

what a wonderful collection of quilts I to am a senior who quilts to stay busy also on oxygen 24/7 but my girls are very understanding as one quilts the other sews clothes and does leatherwork so I do feel for this lady and her ungrateful kids I wish the very best for her and do agree her house should be set for her comfort if the kids come for a meal let them set wherever

AUQuilter 11-01-2014 05:01 AM

What a great collection of beautiful quilts! They should set up the LA in the DR and enjoy their quilting days. Their kids are quite ungrateful as this hobby keeps them going. They are lucky that up until now they have not had to care for them. i agree that it would be nice to sell some of the quilts as it could fund the hobby and maybe get a housekeeper in twice a month so they have more time for sewing. Surely a church or other charitable organization would enjoy a donated quilt to raffle. I would also suggest that she label her quilts. As far as the kids coming over for dinner, it is about time that they have Mom and Dad over to their house for dinner. And they should come get them and take them home! Life is too short to kowtow to adult kids!
