Last time I had time to work on this quilt was March. Had some time this weekend. Finally have a quarter of the circle done. Sure wish I had more time. Colours are slightly brighter than the image, and the part closest to centre is actually a nice light mauve, not pink as it appears.

Your quilt project is absolutely gorgeous!! :D
The colors are perfect & the design, is out of
this world. What is the name of your pattern?
I am so anxious to see more progress. Keep
sharing, as you have time to work on it.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

This is so pretty!! Your color choices are wonderful. Can't wait to see it all done...

rb. 07-12-2009 03:49 PM

Thanks, everyone. It's a pattern I saw from a quilt picture I saw posted here...I forget who it was that had posted, it was about a year or so ago. The pattern is Bella Bella Venice Rose. Yep, it's paper pieced. Eighteen pieces per wedge, 40 wedges. I have about 3/4 of the wedges done, and now I'm starting to put some together, so I feel there is progress.

When it's done, it will have the round band around the woven centre, a mariner's compass of my own design in the very centre, and corners to square it up with smaller mariner's compasses.

Here's a link to the quilts in the book the pattern is from. I think next I will try her Carnevale for my husband and I.

i am so impressed. i just checked out the site and her work is terrific looking, but also designed to make a person go blind. i can't give you enough credit!

what is the finished size of the quilt? and how do you plan on quilting it?

What a neat optical illusion!
Good job!

Eddie 07-13-2009 06:47 AM

Wow, that's going to be beautiful! I can see why it has been slow going, but's it going to be great when done.

Lisa T 07-13-2009 08:07 AM

This is just unbelievable! I love it.

I looked at the link and her quilts make me think of spirographs- you know the old game where you have circles/shapes with holes in them and can put a pen tip through the hole and wheel them around each other to make a design? They are just stunning!

littlehud 07-13-2009 08:35 AM

Wow. That is awesome. Everything matches up perfectly. What a great job.

pittsburgpam 07-13-2009 08:35 AM

That is so cool!!! It's beautiful.

rb. 07-13-2009 08:38 AM

butterflywing,

The finished size, per the pattern, is 72 x72. I may add some to the top, with some mariner's compass type design, to cover the pillows. My daughter is only 11 right now, and in a twin bed, but I want it big enough to cover a double or queen at some future point. I'm not doing all this work for nothing.

rb. 07-13-2009 08:42 AM

Thanks again, everyone. These patterns, by Norah McMeeking, were inspired by mosaic tile floors in Europe. Some of the tile floor pictures in the book are amazing.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the colours as well. I'm colour challenged, and we all know the longer you look at something, the less you really see it. I've been doubting my colour selections all weekend, despite my husband's reassurances.

omak 07-13-2009 09:21 AM

well, I think you are over your color-challenged issues.
That quilt just seems to move in and out as you look at it ... and, something else that I always try to tell people ... when you work so close on an item, you know more about that item than anyone else will ever know.
You know where you over sewed a seam, you know where it misses by two threads .... forget looking at those parts ... And, maybe, by looking at the picture, you see how good it really is.
Sometimes, we don't give ourselves enough credit for being capable quilters. Give yourself a pat on the back ... I promise ... you will not become a pompous person ... as Babe Ruth said: It ain't braggin if you can do it.
(good words to live by)

amma 07-13-2009 09:29 AM

Awesome, Stunning, Gorgeous!!!! I can't wait to follow your progress on this beauty!!! :D :D :D

quiltluvr 07-13-2009 03:56 PM

WOW! That is going to be some quilt. Can't wait to see the finished top and when it's all quilted and bound.

a double bed top is 54 x 75. if the pattern part of the top is 72 . that will give you 9" of over hang of the pattern on each side.

a queen is 60 x 80. if the pattern part is 72 then you get 4" overhang on each side. you may want to add borders to the quilt top. ouch!

doesn't it seem never to end? but, you're right: you're not doing this for nothing! she won't appreciate it until she's at least partly grown, but when she does, she'll want more and more and more. look out! no good deed goes unpunished, right? teach you to be a great mom!

Lainee 07-13-2009 04:18 PM

Your quilt is extremely beautiful....and extremely scary looking for this extreme rookie. Can't wait to see the progress.

sewnsewer2 07-13-2009 04:55 PM

Oh wow, that is going to be gorgeous!! Can't wait to see it when you are done.
