Quick Baby Quilt from the Scrap Drawer

2 Attachment(s)
I raided my drawer of 2" squares, and sewed miles of them to 2" white strips. Sewed them together in this checkerboard pattern and-- WHAMO-- instant baby quilt!

It's so nice to have the scraps all cut into squares for when you need them.

And since it's a baby quilt, the back is full of... babies! All doing their baby things.

Cute scrappy baby quilt!

AnnieF 05-27-2016 08:56 AM

I love pre-cuts. Most of my pre-cuts are ones I've cut myself from scraps....but it is so convenient to just go in, grab some and you're on your way. Checkerboard quilts are easy and fast and they look great!

PaperPrincess 05-27-2016 09:08 AM

Great quilt! Your quilting lines make it look like square in a square blocks.

great quilt

Beautiful baby quilt, love the backing fabric. If you just cut 2" strips you can sew white and colored strips together and then cut them. Would be much faster too.

BluegrassGurl 05-27-2016 11:05 AM

Very cute! Love the backing fabric.

You're right, it would... but I have a drawer full of squares already cut, from trimming scraps. I am determined to get those used up! I had a variety of white and WOW strips so I was able to use those up too. Still have a bunch of print squares, probably enough for 6 more of these quilts. And about four times that many of 2.5" squares! Lucky I like piecing....

QUILTNMO 05-27-2016 11:28 AM

Very cute baby quilt!!

I'm in love with this quilt. it's so cute!

oksewglad 05-27-2016 12:05 PM

So you used left over whites as well... And the simple quilting lines finish it off so well..sew cute.
..creative juices flowing....what if you used 2 1/2" squares in a 15x15 square setting...put it on point ...cut 2 21" squares on the diagonal for setting triangles...oh and if you wanted to use 2 " squares you would need a 20x20 block setting...a left over 3/8 of a yard for the corners would be put to good use...oh sew many ideas......

Friend, I love your pretty colorful baby quilt. You did a great job using all those 2" squares. That is a cute backing too. Just perfect for the baby quilt. Great Job! You do such nice work, and are a real busy bee too. :)

It never ceases to amaze me what comes out of scraps. Well done.

ctyankee 05-27-2016 02:39 PM

Love your baby quilt! Hmmm ... I may have to do that with my 2" squares.

Annaquilts 05-27-2016 02:45 PM

No how cute is that? I don't think it can get any better. Really nice baby fabric on the back too.

QuiltNama 05-27-2016 05:52 PM

coopah 05-28-2016 04:24 AM

Scrap quilts are so colorful and fun to look at to see all the different fabrics. That backing fabric is sweet!

Karamarie 05-28-2016 04:47 AM

I really like that - could I ask what size your baby quilt is?

deedum 05-28-2016 05:15 AM

Adorable. Making me rethink my scraps, 2" is usually not something I mess with. Now, I see possibilities!

hairquilt 05-28-2016 05:19 AM

Exactly what I do too! Love your baby quilt_good job!

NIICHMOM 05-28-2016 05:28 AM

Really a cute baby quilt, and I like that you quilted the dash hound, I think that is what you call it.

mjhaess 05-28-2016 07:17 AM

This one is a preemie or car seat quilt... very small. It's about 29" square.

tallchick 05-28-2016 10:09 AM

Perfect quilt!!

Friday1961 05-28-2016 12:09 PM

Adorable! You've given me a great idea for my own scraps.

ontheriver 05-28-2016 01:08 PM

So bright and adorable. I love how the quilting gives the appearance (to me) of a square in a square design. Great!

Yes it does... The pieces are too small to crosshatch all the blocks (IMO) so I only crosshatched the whites and let the prints 'pop out'. So glad I didn't do it the other way around.

That's what I have found as well...and it's so easy...
