A quickie Air Force quilt
1 Attachment(s)
My neighbor, and good friend, asked for me to make a quilt for her BIL, who was having a retirement dinner this weekend. Only she asked me to get it done in two days, whew! She also wanted photos covering all of his 20 years in the service and a few blank blocks for family to sign. Needless to say I lived at the sewing table, and this is what I came up with on short notice. Thanks for looking.

As the proud aunt of an Air Force pilot, I think it is beautiful and would even if I wasn't an aunt. I can't imagine a timeframe like that. It would take me longer than that to THINK about how to do it. I like photograph quilts and this one is so neat. I hope she appreciates your friendship and dedication. That is amazing!

My son is a Marine and all men and women in service to our great country are my hero's but I gotta tell you, as of today, you are my QUILTING HERO! 2 days, a beautiful quilt, with pictures. Enough said!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. It has taken me all this week-end to re-coop from my sewing marathon. My friend is not back from the retirement trip yet, so I don't know how well the quilt was received, she was going to present it to him at the General's banquet. Steve(BIL) has served two terms in Iraq and is being given an award cermony. I would have to say that all the ironing involved was the biggest pain in the b__, and doing the photos was easy, but time consuming. And lastly it took 4 hrs non-stop sewing to hand-stitch the binding to the back. The quilt came out to be 60"x79".

Memories to be treasured for sure. What a kind and generous person you are to do this on the spur of the moment. I am sure the family will love it!!!!
|

Aren't neighbors wonderful? I'm assuming it's a long time neighbor to do a quilt in 2 days. Mine is stuccoing my house at about half the cost. His son is doing the job and dad is "Supervising". Right. Wonderful quilt for a guy that protected out freedom. He will treasure his memory quilt. Thanks for sharing your quilt with us and your quilting talent for him.
