I just found this on the swiss version of ebay. The seller says its dated around 1840 and the price starts at $ 7200. The size is 82x75".
Have no intention to buy  its a bit too pricy for my taste.
But I like the pattern.

What do you think?

Awesome but way out of any budget I ever had :)

Grama Lehr 07-18-2011 07:06 AM

WOW!! I bet the maker of the quilt would be pleased!!

alikat110 07-18-2011 07:06 AM

It's beautiful, but way out of my price range tooo

Jingle 07-18-2011 07:11 AM

Absolutely gorgeous, hust think how much time went into it. Good price, not for my though.

QuiltnNan 07-18-2011 07:15 AM

it's interesting that they put a blue sash around the corner sections.

erstan947 07-18-2011 07:17 AM

This quilt is incredible. I'm not picking it apart but I notice that many seams don't match up. This quilt tells me that beauty is not in perfection. The fabric and pattern works together for an amazing quilt. I would love to know the history of this quilt:) Wish I could afford it!:)

butterflies5518 07-18-2011 07:19 AM

awesome - but not in my budget, thanks for showing

Dont you think it would look better with blue sashing around all sections?
Hope the lady making this gorgeous quilt in 1840 doesnt mind me asking........

grammiepamie 07-18-2011 07:53 AM

it is awesome but when I look at the center of the star I feel like I am falling into it. Is that weird or what? Or is it an optical illusion? Or is it my cataracts? Does it do this to anyone else?

Yes, it does to me. It honestly made me a tad bit dizzy, but it's still beautiful!

ckcowl 07-18-2011 08:17 AM

beautiful- but the fabrics don't look like any i've seen from that time period= wonder where it came from.
there are some pretty expensive quilts out there- if i had the $$ to blow i would look into that one- it is so beautiful- but i would want some documentation---the fabrics just don't seem like 1840's fabrics - which tended to be darker---turkey reds, indigo's- rust's...
but that could just be the period fabrics in the U.S. maybe other parts of the world had different fabrics back then with lighter colors.

ckcowl 07-18-2011 08:22 AM

quilts don't have to be old to be worth lots- i've made 2 quilts that appraised for alot---as in $3700 for one- and $5600 for the other :)
of course-that is just an appraisal- for insurance purposes- it does not mean i could ever sell either of them for anything close to that.

blueangel 07-18-2011 08:29 AM

Beautiful, but out of my price range

Sewfine 07-18-2011 09:42 AM

Beautiful quilt and lots of work but too expensive for me.

aorlflood 07-18-2011 09:58 AM

I like how the center star looks likes it is jumping out at you! Beautiful quilt!

In the describtion it says the quilt is orginated from Todd County K.Y. USA.

The old quilts like this one are the true works of art. They are cut out with scissors and probably a newspaper pattern. It's amazing! Thanks for sharing but I agree, it's a bit pricey.

trif 07-18-2011 10:13 AM

All the detail, and a great design. It would be nice to know more about it's history and about the quilter.

QUILTNMO 07-18-2011 12:11 PM

ITS BEAUTIFUL BUT I WOULDNT PAY THAT MUCH

ruck9085 07-18-2011 12:19 PM

WOW!! Hand pieced and hand quilted, lovely!

sandy12010 07-18-2011 12:26 PM

And me. The movement in it is chaotic and makes me feel a touch queasy. I couldn't live with it.

Perhaps the colours have faded over time, which might explain why they are paler than the shades usually associated with that time.

The more I look at this quilt the more I dislike it. Old isn't necessarily beautiful, as I say every day when I look in the mirror...

sandisquiltedtouch 07-19-2011 04:12 AM

It is always fun to look at old quilts. However I don't see the quilting being that old. I don't know the fabrics just don't seem right to me. And I looks to be in good condition how was it stored to look so good darn near 200 years later.
I am no expert in the field just my thoughts. if they are worth a dime. lol

bobolee 07-19-2011 04:12 AM

Wow! That is a lot of pieces!

Dodie 07-19-2011 04:15 AM

a beautiful quilt but way out of my price range what a collection of scraps and the hours of work wonder how they came up with 1840

Same here, but its very intresting

laalaaquilter 07-19-2011 04:34 AM

Have mercy! Beautiful, even if they can't prove the date (which would bring down the price significantly for me) it is still a GORGEOUS quilt.

JeanLowe 07-19-2011 04:58 AM

Beautiful quilt

yolanda 07-19-2011 05:00 AM

wow!

You are 100% right...reminds me of a black hole. Getting sucked into the vortex!

Crafty Darlene 07-19-2011 05:31 AM

Beautiful, but it's certainly WAY out of my price range!

I'm inclined to agree with you and 'CKCOWL' This certainly doesn't give the appearance of being very old. The colors are way off for that time period and the quilt looks like it is 'hot off the press! I also would want to see some documentation before I would even consider spending that kind of money on an 'antique'.

Sharonsews 07-19-2011 06:09 AM

Wonderful quilt but out of my price range!

mhansen6 07-19-2011 06:34 AM

That is a spectacular quilt and probably worth the $7200. I just can't afford it.

gramquilter2 07-19-2011 06:59 AM

A beautiful quilt looks like lots of work went into it.

just_the_scraps_m'am 07-19-2011 07:07 AM

pretty, but makes me dizzy
fabric doesn't exactly look like c1840, but maybe
they are lucky enough to have some proof of that...

granny_59 07-19-2011 07:16 AM

Thank you for all your feedback.
I doubt the date also and the quilt didnt sell. If they put it in again I will ask about the orgine.

jillaine 07-19-2011 07:18 AM

well if i'd made that, I would be charging $7200, that's for sure!

caspharm 07-19-2011 07:36 AM

Beautiful, but definitely out of my price range as well.
